Lipstick Pigs & Pit Bulls
Posted in
Unspecified
Attacks abound! Obama fires a shot. McCain fires back. The stupid adds are mounting up. Every commercial break is filled with a black background and random pictures of the candidates with rolled up sleeves as if they are ready to fix something on there walk back from capitol hill to there house.
This past week has been a interesting one. One where Obama's faith was questioned, once again, and Palin's choice in lipstick wearing persona's were attacked. First off, the interview with Obama and George Stephanopoulos. In the interview Obama tried to make the point that his faith as a Muslim had been attacked. Many people took this as a "slip of the tongue" that he was actually still a practicing Muslim. What he was trying to say was that they use his Muslim background to attack the validity of his Christian beliefs.
Moving on, Palin's "lipstick on a pit bull" took a new twist when Obama used the old southern phrase "You can put lipstick on a pig, its still a pig." Do I believe he did it on purpose? Maybe maybe not. Bottom line it has taken the headlines. The two main topics at hand here were all any one brought out of these interviews and campaign stops. Not a single media outlet that matters elaborated on what else Obama may have said about health care, civil rights, gun control, abortions, or education. What sound bites do you remember of these topics? Any?
McCain and Palin have had here share of media snipers as well. Palin's media was about how she cut spending in Alaska on special needs education. She in fact tripled the funding. There are shots being taken at her daughter and son. People have been saying that her son is in fact her daughter's child. You could go on and on on both sides of the aisle with the scandals and what not but here is the bottom line.
The biggest election in probably 20 years is coming up. The candidates say so much more than whats put out there by the media. A forty minute speech or interview is summed up by a two minute statement they cut, clip, and process for you. Are ANY of the candidates perfect politicians? Do they all practice what they preach? Would any of them do every thing they say they are going to do when elected into office? My answer to that is, absolutely not. Not a single one of these people are going to do everything they say they will. Will they come close? Maybe.
The one thing we have to remember these days is that the world is very fluid like when it come to events. The President of the United States is under the biggest microscope in the world. decissions have to be made on the fly. Peoples lives are effected with every pen stroke, and things change every minute.
I think the candidates are only getting a taste of whats to come should they be elected. At the heart of all this is the media. CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, your local channels, even your local newspaper all have a responsibility to report the facts. To let you know what these candidates are going to try to do if elected president. So I find it a huge let down when the topic of the day is not "Obama's tax reforms" or "McCains education strategy" or a number of topics that REALLY matter! Instead we are reduced to the deciding our president based on a few snide sound bite that in the end reduce the run for the white house too the knife fight scene in the "Beat It" music video. If only the candidates could dance that well.
Lets get back to the plans at hand and what the candidates are going to TRY and do for this country and leave the media induced knife fights at the door.

How MTV Could Decide the Next President
Posted in
Unspecified
I know that this sounds ridiculous, but here is my gripe. Last nights MTV Video Music Awards were a complete sham. If you haven´t watched I think it is important that you do even if it is hard to watch. I can pretty much sum it up in a few paragraphs. First off the host of the VMAs was Russell Brand. It was apparent early that his entire "routine" was centered around trying to be as controversial as possible. He pissed off a lot of people with his remarks. After his entrance he pleaded with the American people to vote for Obama. He then went on to say that he was told he had to try and be equal and said that he guessed republicans were all "right people." This isn´t what made me mad. It was his next comment about how he knew that Americans were forward thinking people, otherwise they would not have elected "That retarded cowboy fellow." While this was a negative attack on Bush´s judgment, what he really meant was that we, Americans are worse for electing him.
He went on to attack the Jonas Brothers, making fun of the fact that they were rings to signify that they are virgins, and have made a promise to God that they will remain that way till they are married. He said that he´d been more impressed if they had put those rings around there genitals. Point being that I´m sure there were a lot of teens out there who wear similar signs of promise and of faith, and they were basically told by MTV that this was a stupid thing to do. Lets face it. By having a host do their show, that person is a representative of the way MTV thinks, and believes. It was a absolute disgrace to the entire music industry last night.
My biggest beef with MTV the whole night was the fact that Brand didn´t stop taking shots at the Republican party. After the opening he continued to turn every negative aspect of the show in to a snipe at conservatives. The point I´m trying to make is this is a huge network that has a huge audience. Most of the people watching last night are going to be first time voters. They don´t know what to believe because of the hit and run tactics on both side by the media. Such a decision directly affects my family. I work for the Department Of Defense as a federal firefighter. My duty is to protect the men and women who serve in the armed forces while they are home. Voters get to pick my boss. I flipped between Fox news and CNN today and in the span of 2 hours there was not one segment on the positives of the candidates. Fox news took shots at Obama, and CNN did the same with Palin and McCain. It goes both ways and they all act like they are "fair and balanced."
Their is a very important decision in the history of the United States of America coming up. I am trying to give as much credit to the young voters of America and hope that they don´t rely on the one liners of a crappy comedian to make there choice for the leaders of America. MTV did a huge disservice to the young voters by not trying to bring out the positives in being able to vote.
In summary if you are registered to vote, and plan on voting, do your own research. Don´t let MTV, CNN, FOX News, or any other media outlet tell you what is right or wrong. Figure out what you think would effect you the most, weather its healthcare, education, abortion, civil rights, or any thing else, and make a decision of what you your self have found out about the candidates. I´m including links to all the candidates that I can find on the net. If anyone else has another candidate that I haven´t found please feel free to include it.

Ghost Hunting
Posted in
Unspecified
For those of you interested in ghost hunting, I am the case manager for Corpus Christi Spook Central. http://ccspookcentral.com/ . We have been around now for 3 years. We have done numerous investigations public, and private. The City of Corpus Christi has endorsed us as the for most athority on paranormal activity in the costal bend. Our methods are similar to that of T.A.P.S. (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) except for one big differance. We dont take money. Taps doesnt charge either, but they do take donations. We feel that this can effect the integrity of our investigations. On our site you may see ticket prices for public investigations. All the money made from that goes to the restoration of the places we investigate.
People ask if we have seen a ghost. I personaly havent seen a ghost, but I have had weird experiances such as being touched when no one is near me. Numerous EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenom). Other investigators that have been doing this longer than I have, say they have seen apparitions and had other experiances. When we go to do a investigation, we go in trying to dissprove the building may be haunted. When we cant explain whats going on with a reasonable answer then there may be a chance that something is really happening. I invite you all to come check out our site. We post all our evidence on our web site so you can be the judge. We dont claim that whats posted is a defenative sign of a haunting. It is simply something we can not explain.

Politics
Posted in
Unspecified
Politics is a funny beast to me. Seems to be a blend of a popularity contest, beauty pageant, and a inquisition. Every 4 years in the United States we hold elections to see who is going to be President. We hear talk about how we should all unite under a common cause to select the next leader of the "free world". However It seems that no other process brings out the worst in a lot of people.
So my questions for you are:
What good comes from the election process?
What bad?
How can we fix the bad?
Where do you draw the line between passion for a cause and a zealot?
Who will you vote for and why?
Please keep all comments decent. To disagree with some one is fine but to bash is one of the problems we have going on right now. I look forward to your answers!
