Yeah, the story about the bear is dinkum oil. Italy view him as state property, and Germany view him as a museum exhibit. Sad.



I got the starsky thing from a tourist guide on Australia published in 1991. It was a Dutch publication, and maybe they felt a need to make something up. It wouldn't even be too far-fetched (Starsky & Hutch -> Dutch), but I already had my doubts.



I'm always interested in slang expression, whether they be Australian or otherwise, so please do. Meanwhile, here are some expressions from my region, which are often found on fridge magnets and bathroom tiles:

He's poorer than a cat - at least the cat has its tail

You can jump high or low, it ain't gonna happen

Taste is something personal said the farmer as he ate another cow-pie

He's keeping on at me for soup, but all he gets is beet water



If I remember any more of these, and many there are, I'll come back
