MORE AUSSIE SLANG!

G'day, This entry is for Dutchboy
and anyone else who is interested.
These are but just a small sample
of our colourful lingo. I will post
more later.

Here goes with some Australian lingo.

1.  Ankle biter = Small child.

2.  Apples, she'll be right =
   It'll be alright

3.  Ace = Excellent very good.

4. Back of Bourke = A very long way.

5. Banana bender = A Queenslander.

6. Barrack = to cheer (footy team etc.)

7.  Bastard = Term of endearment

8. Bail out = depart usually angrily

9. Barbie = Barbecue (noun)

10. Ariel Ping pong =
Aussie rules football

11. Amber fluid = BEER

12. Arvo = Afternoon.

13.Bonzer = Great, ripper.

14. Bush telly = Camp fire.

15. Battler = Hard worker &
only just making ends meet.

16. Bodgy = Of inferior quality.

17. Cobber = friend.

18. Cockie = farmer. & Cockatoo.

20. Cockroach =
A person from N.ew South Wales.

21. Come a gutser = Make a very
bad mistake, or have an accident.

22. Crack onto =To hit on someone,
to persue romantically.

23.Crack a fat = Get an erection.

24. Old fella = Penis.

25. Good onya =good for you,
well done.

26. The other side of the black stump =
Middle of no where.

27, This can be said in two ways---
Useless as tits on a bull or
about as useful as tits on a bull,
either way it means =
Totally  unhelpful, incompetent.

Wow!

Fascinating AND comprehensive. I hate to ask, but if you get a chance, could you comment on animals that you see that would be considered unusual by people in North America, Europe, etc? Kangaroos, a bird in a cute song called the Kookabura? Thanks!

Cool

Those were really neat and intresting. I enjoyed the slang, and I think number one was my faveortie. In the US, people tend to use the term ankle bitere to refer to a small dog. Mostly Chiwahawas (and I know I spelled that wrong)
