A Slate magazine article on a recent President Bush press conference used the term to criticize him quite brutally: "George W. Bush criticizing someone for not understanding the world is like... well, it's like George W. Bush criticizing someone for not understanding the world. It's sui generis: No parallel quite captures the absurdity so succinctly."

Don't get me going!

I hope that everyone realizes that not all Americans agree with Bush. I despise him. No one form of government works for every country. Even I'm not that naive to think that a new form of lasting government could be formed and then everyone would live happily every after. It kills me to hear him or anyone else call the u.s. the greatest nation. Prove it. You can't because it's not true. Even if it were, why would you irritate the rest of the world by saying it?? To distance myself from that kind of talk, when I write to a non-usa citizen...right there, like that, I never put the usa in all caps for fear of looking haughty. I am so careful not to just write, for example, Happy Thanksgiving. Not everyone in the world celebrates it. We were just talking about Dawnie yesterday and how surprised I was at her touching "4th of July" tribute. She also heard about the Jon Bennet case. What do we know about what's going on in Austalia? Nothing! Sorry, I hate it when my comments are longer than the post.
