MY THOUGHTS....

Posted in Unspecified

I want to say a few words on what the Pope has said...Now I can't see anything wrong with quoting from an Islamic text written by a Moslem, as I understand it! Albeit 700 years old. It seems that there is an unwritten law for one sector "Islam" and a law for the rest...Christians, Jews, and all other religions. Why are these people so thin-skinned and dictatorial? They can stand on high and call for the death of all those they disagree with, but the rest of us, it seems have to shut our mouths and just think whatever is on our minds in total silence. I have to say that I am not a Catholic. My husband and children are, but two of my granddaughters are Church of England...Same horse different leg! My Son has given up his Catholic faith in part, because of what he has seen on his travels with the army, his children are of the pagan faiths. Mystical, beautiful and free spirited. It is after all, said and done a free world and to quote a great right of passage in the democracies of this world! "I might not agree with you but I will defend your right to say it." So I say to all these hate filled people stop all this hateful tyrannical behaviour and get an education and learn how to love yourselves, so you can love all forms of humanity...not just a narrow bigoted section that suits your hateful dead brains.
P/S My Granddaughters best friend is a little Moslem girl and what a beautiful polite girl she is, with the nicest family. I am not against Arabs or the Moslem faith, because it is a beautiful and loving religion. It has unfortunately been hijacked and used for hateful purposes by a radical few. I love all people because this is my mantra...Love All. So all good people have to stand up and be counted and stop apologizing for being something these radical, few misfits hate and want to murder. The world made apologies for Hitler and look where that lead...The murder of millions.
This is what he Pope Benedict said

"I was reminded of all this recently, when I read... of part of the dialogue carried on - perhaps in 1391 in the winter barracks near Ankara - by the erudite Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Paleologus and an educated Persian on the subject of Christianity and Islam, and the truth of both."

"In the seventh conversation...the emperor touches on the theme of the holy war. Without descending to details, such as the difference in treatment accorded to those who have the "Book" and the "infidels", he addresses his interlocutor with a startling brusqueness on the central question about the relationship between religion and violence in general, saying: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

"The emperor, after having expressed himself so forcefully, goes on to explains in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable. Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul. "God," he says, "is not pleased by blood - and not acting reasonably is contrary to God's nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats."

Benedict was quoting from a 700-year-old ISLAMIC document.  He was not giving his views; he merely said he was reminded of the content of this document when discussing violence resulting from disagreement between religions.

Like the cartoons published in Denmark, which incidentally, we are told cannot be published, stepping on our freedom of speech and press, apparently some Islamic/Muslim sects took great umbrage at the Pope's remarks. The result? -----There were many demonstrations in Denmark and quite a bit of violence---OVER CARTOONS!

As for the Pope's words?

Well, a Christian nun has been killed.
Muslims are demonstrating all over the place.
A Muslim cleric in Great Britain stood in the streets of London and called for the death of Pope Benedict.
Their Jihad, the holy war they are waging against the word, has long been calling for the death of Christians and Jews. Now, I ask you.  If it's all right for them to preach hatred and intolerance, why do Christians and Jews have to apologize for the reading of an excerpt from a 700-year-old tome?

I don't know....

I was raised to believe there are good and bad of all kinds of people. For me, if everybody I know is anti-black, or anti-arab or whatever, and I meet one nice black person, arab person, or whatever, then I figure that they can't all be bad. The next time I hear someone say something against black people, arab people or whatever, I think of my friend. Then I get mad!

Freedom of Speech

I believe in freedom of speech, but I also think that our religious leaders especially need to choose their words very wisely. Personally, I would expect the Pope to have some understanding of Muslim mentality and know that the prophet Mohammad is very sacred to Islam. I would also expect him to consider what type of reaction his words can bring, and to realize that a quote like "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached" is actually pretty critical of the most important founder of Islam. The problem with free speech is that any dummy can pretty much say whatever he wants...people think it's a basic human right to be able to say what they want. But people don't realize that it comes with a price, that the things people can say to and about each other have the power to hurt other people. Without wisdom, freedom of speech can be very evil.

Dawnie's Pope Post

I just want to say that I never ever thought that Dawnie was saying anything anti-Islamic or anti-anyone or anything! I was just agreeing with her post by stating my anti-predjudice philosophy.
