im also pumped for whe turner and morgan come visit in a week YESSSS. its gunna be sick chillin in france with my pals from maine. psht yea man.

School is pretty good except for the fact that they give a shit load f homework over vacations which really sucks. i have to write a report on soil for environmental studies....like thats gunna happen. i miss home but its really awesome here too, except for the hole language thing which is fine because all my pals speak french and they speak for me.

which reminds me of this cool thing which happened. i got an industrial piercing. yea man. its so sick. its was kinda embaressing cuz my friend had to translate for me, but it was worth it. o yea and it hurt like hell. but not any more cuz its really awesome. i keep on wearing my hair up so that ian show it off. haha. i would put a picture but it wont let me.

i would continue to type but i am outside because its the only place i can get wifi and my figures are freezing (so bye y'all)

2/3/2008 - America vs. Europe
Posted in Unspecified

hello all. I have decided that I am going to force myself to write on the blog every single day. I have so much to write about but i always forget to post on the bolg. haha

SO back to the reason this blog was created.

I have decided that being American officially sucks. I used to think that i could change some peoples sterotypes of americans by being the liberal, open minded person that i am. but basically, no matter what you say, people always throw that "aw but your american" crap back in your face. actually, although being american in Europe sucks, I have also begun to appriciate being an American. My peers here are very close minded. they are very homophobic, and basically your typical right wing neo facist butt heads you see in America. the difference though, is that american is so far ahead of the rest of the world as far as gay rights (believe it or not) i was in a class the other day and we started having a debate about the rights of gay couples to adopt. and basically everyone there was against it except for the "americans" in the class. and you no what they said: "see this is only because you are ignorant americans, you dont no what your talking about" i was shocked that Europeans of all people were not open to all people. it was crazy. i spent the rest of my class defending my position. Its wierd, because currently, america is on the fron tlines fighting for the rights of gay people and Europe hasnt even joined the fight. they are so far behind. its crazy. they may b ahead of us in many other things, but as far as progressive thinking on this subject I AM PROUD TO BE AMERICAN which i thought i woudl NEVER say. And with all this anti american banter, i am starting to even try to defend our nation. im not going around saying that what we are doing is right (not by any means) but i am trying to convince them that not every american fits into there steretypical outlook on our country. my lord its ridiculous.

more to come. cool beans. -dana-

1/23/2008 - random stuff
Posted in Unspecified

Lets seeee.....whats new in my life. Waht can i talk about.

well everything is pretty cool over here. The weather has gotten much better. its awesome. In the mornings its really cold (for french standards) then in the day its so warm its so nice. although its hard ot find the right kinda jacket to wear because you want something that can keep you warm but can also be worn when your not so cold ya no. me and my sister wanted to go se Sweeny Todd tonight but we got there and there was a huge line and by the time we got up there it was all sold out. ITs really wierd being at the same school and ALL the same classes as my sister. I love her but she can be so anoying and obnovious sometimes. I feel bad saying it but she emmberesses me. ive met some cool people. Australians, Spaniards, this girl who has like lived in a million diff.  places in her life which is crazy so i cant figure out exactly where she is from. haha.

One thing that i have noticed are that there are no fat people in france and there are no gingers iin france. i have been here and i have not seen one ginger. the only ginger at my whole school is american. clearly france is a superior nation because they dont have gingers. totally kidding by the way, it was just an observation. the bread here is crazy good. its really nice that you can just walk around the corner and there are like a million bakery type places and you can by baguettes for like 80 cents. what else.

I have a camera now so i should be putting up pictures. the only problem is that i do not have a memory stick thingy yet so i can only hold like 7 pictures on the camera at a time so i havnt really taken it out to take pictures because it seem kinda silly to only take a limited amount of pictures. i dunno.

anyways, all is well, and hopefully ill be better at posting in the future, whenever i have something to say that i would want to put on the blog i dont have my computer and when i do have it i always forget.

Everything is really cool here. ive made lots of friends and im slowly getting used to it all. Apparently the college in aix just started its study abroad program this week, and you can really tell by the huge influx of people you here speaking english around the streets. its bad but ive kinda learned to block out french because i cant understand it, and its weird becuase whenever i here englidh now im like "oh my god, english speaking people" and i listen in, how sketchy is that? cool beans.

1/11/2008 - culture
Posted in Unspecified

so...france is much different the America, in my opinion, better in some ways, but worse in others.

1.) So EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE smokes in France. all the people at school do, they do it in between classes, no one gives a shit here. it is not frowned upon or looked at badly like in america. who knows, i might pick up smoking (hopfully not though as my parents would kill me) but i can by them here and smoke them wherever i want. Although a new law is being past in france that you cannot smoke in resturants...which i have heard is very unpopular.

2.) everyone gets wasted and goes into clubs...because there is no drinking age and thier is no age requirment to go into clubs. i hear people at school talking about what they did at the club. i have not gotten wasted yet because i dont want to do it alone, but also, because i am still a little nervous to actually go into a store and by booze (clearly i am an american teenager haha)

3.) everyone dresses so well. they all wear skinny jeans (most guys included) they wear nice everything. There are absolutly NO HIPPIES in france. so i look very different to them. whatever i dont really care that much (althoug i amy invest in a pair of skinny jeans)

4.) eveything is fucking expensive (especially since the exchange rate sucks) nothing is every on sale. in france, stores can only be on sale two monts of the whole year (febuary and july) every other part of the year it is all regualar price. not cool (my take on this sucks because i wont be able to buy much while i am over here. but if i had grown up in france i would think it is a good thing because it teaches people not to buy everything they want like they do in america. France, unlike USA, is not so invested in consumerism, which makes people save thier money for things that absolute want or need, which in turn helps the economy, whihc is turn cuts down on waste, which then ultimently helps the environment!!! so yay for france...exceot not really because i want cheap shit...hahaha

5.) there is no such thing as fast anything. you cannot get a coffee in the morning without sitting down at a coffee place or cafe. (which is kinda annoying since i am so used to going into coffee roasters or starbucks and getting a coffe and leaving) also, the coffee they give is in tiy little cups, ill ask for a latte and they put it in this tiny cup thats only a little bigger then that of an expresso cup. I NEED MORE CAFFEEN. again this goes hand in hand with the fact that french people are not fat because they have much smaller portions.

6.) roads are tiny. the roads here are only about the size of the car. they are so small that the car mirror is sticking into the side walk. this is because only the annoying people have big cars. most people own tiny midget cars so thy can parka dn drive (good for environment) they have lots of public transportation as well. i havenever seen so many busses at one time.

7.) there is probably more that i will talk about later in "culture pt. 2"

1/11/2008 - school
Posted in Unspecified

sorry about not posting for a while, just catching up with stuff ya no.

anyway, so school is interesting i guess. It has very long days 8-5 ahhhhhhh. i take, envirinmental studies, math, french (which sucks because i am entering a class midway and i no no french so i am so lost) english, theory of knowledge (which is like philosophy...its an interesting class), history (which is only about russia in the 20th century so it is very in depth shit) and art (which is the most intense class in the world holy shit it is hard)

Everyone im my school is bilingual, most are trilingual. Me...i only speak english. In a lot of my classes the teacher switches in and out of english and french so i only understand half the class...very confusing. also somtimes student answer and discuss in french so i am usually completlly confused about what the fuck is happening. (its awkward when they are rambling in french and then they all start laghing about some joke that was made in french, then i just kinda laugh along as if i knew what was going on.)

there are many breaks throughout the day, and since i hav enot made any real friends yet i just kinda wonder around aimlessly. i have met some people that speak english as thier first language (which is hard to find) and they seem nice but i havnt really gotten a chance to really get to know them, it kinda awkward actually, which you would think would be fine for me considering the fact that i am a very awkward person. haha. but it is actually really wierd.

on the bright side. all the guys at this school are extemally hot! i havent really gotten to no many of them yet. actually i have only said a couple of words to people becuase i am a shy person. but that will change hopfully.

lunch is hard because they do not serve vegitarian options. AHHHHH. so i just eat bread and broccali usually. hmmm what else. im sure their is more to say but i cant remeber it now.

i hoe that the future post will be a little more upbeat then this one...like maybe talking about awesome clubs or somthing (which i have not yet experienced because i dont want to go alone)

1/5/2008 - First Days in France
Posted in Unspecified

Hello all,

This is my third or so day in France. My families apartment is small but still nice. It has a bottom floor with thre bedrooms. (i have to share with my sister) The upstairs is one big room with a small kitchin and a little living space. Thier is a window tat overlooks other til rooftops. I can also see the top of a pretty church from our window, then farther in the distince i can see the silouttes of some mountains and such. It very nice i think, although at night you can here the wind howling which is a little scary.

We live right in the heart of the city. I can walk outside and don my street and be in an avenue with shops. Then you keep going left or right and i can walk to anything really. Their are lots of shops and coffe places. Its pretty cool. Although I am really scared to actually go into any of these places because then i will actually have to encounter people and that is scary!!!

This city is like the old port, except the streets are much smaller (oneway i guess) its all cobble stone or brick. The buildings are very old. There are also many more streets, its like a giant maze (I got lost my first time out) It is cool. I havent seen it all yet, i hope to explore more later (because it was raining today)

I am getting a camera soon so i can post pictures of this awesome city.

I will have to be much more carefull. Although, I dont think they are that pissed because they did not ground me or anything. They dont think i drink tho, they think i just took it for my friends. They think i am a big pot head tho (which i am not actually) Haha. O well
