When stopped at a stoplight yesterday, I began to think about Chinese fire drills. I've never actually done one, but I had the urge last night.
When you stop for a red light, everybody piles out of the car, runs around the car twice, and hops back in. That's a Chinese fire drill. I looked it up. It seems the drills are attributed to the 70s but have been reported going back to the 40s. The name *Chinese fire drills denotes disorganization. I hate that, isn't that typically American. Slap a negative label on people just because they are different than you and/or you don't understand them. I still love the idea of these fun and potentially life-saving drills. In fact, exiting, circling and re-entering a car in a short period of time, sounds very orderly to me.
*Please note: I am not predjudiced against the Chinese or anybody else (except a certain person in my martial arts class and he earned it) !! I'm very very anti-hatred. Furthermore, I did not come up with the name Chinese Fire Drills. Maybe to be politically correct, we can think up a new name: How about American Fire Drills. I'm sure they're from here. Or, we can leave countries out of it and just call them Vehicle Fire Drills or something. Hey, VFD, Series of Unfortunate Events!
