Our Trip was Amazing! II

Once in terminal C, Detroit, we saw that our next flight was delayed....no surprise with all the diversions/delays. People were saying that the fog had been really bad. Hey, if the airlines doesn't think it's safe to fly, I'm very happy to wait. I saw the cutest, friendliest chiuahau (sp?) and her owner in the restroom! Got Craig some lunch, me a diet Pepsi and sat on the floor by the window at the crowded gate. Struggled through a couple of unannounced gate changes and disappearing flights. Met some really nice, friendly people...a couple stranded because last night's flight to Alpena had (there are only 2 per day) had been cancelled due mechanical issues  Brash, funny, and extremely likeable Trish from Jersey, petite Danielle, from Ste. St. Marie (Didn't know it was in Canada), who met her husband on the internet and now lives in Virginia.  After a couple more delays, and a claim by the agent that they didn't have a flight crew for us (although Trish swears she saw them get on the plane). Finally we got on. The rows consist of two seats in the left, one on the right; with the very last row being four together. We were in the last regular row before the four, opposite Danielle. Everybody wanted Trish to come and sit in the last row, which was empty. You can't just pick a new seat on this airplane, which is a Saab of all things, because they arranged seating for proper balance . Danielle has traveled this route extensively and says that the props are loud and will drive you crazy if you sit in the front (I didn't know it was a prop jet and wished it had stayed that way) I was so lucky that Danielle was there. She gave me all kinds of driving advice and even noticed when I looked nervous and reassured me that she felt safer on this plane than on the big ones. When we bounced slightly and looked a bit nervous, she told me that once they were flying in during snow, and they were landing, when the pilot pulled the plane back up!!! It was a female pilot and she did a fantastic job. The point was that if they could make it through a situation like that, a regular flight was nothing to worry about. That did the trick. The landing was not scarry and not bumpy either. Then they announced that the people continuing on to Ste. St. Marie would have to get on the plane next to ours. Then they wouldn't let us any off! We stood there forever and boy was I antsy. They said it was for security reasons, but of course we had already cleared security. Standing in line in the aisle, I started to complain too, saying that now I was going to have find my way in the dark and I never expected to find myself in that circumstance. A man warned me about deer again. I thanked him profusely for reminding me. We grabbed our luggage right away. There was an 80-yr. old lady manning the rent-a car. When I finally got her attention, and she finally figured out that I really did have a reservation, she took forever to process the forms. She did give me good directions, although I had planned to ask the security people for directions. We finally found the car..ran to it, .got it open, stuffed our things in....
