Ok, so I've got this terrible friend-crush on this person from my karate class. He's really talented. Let me tell you what he did last night. He was part of the support staff, I guess you'd call it, for a mixed martial arts fighter at an event we attended. He's a paramedic/fire fighter and I have heard Shawn say that he is a top notch "cut-man". Isn't that a disgusting term? Well, his fighter got hurt and inbetween rounds, Rick went to work. This guy's face was all red, cut and bleeding. From my vantage point, all I could see was Rick bending over him. When Rick left the ring, the guy looked perfect! My husband thinks that he single-handedly saved the fight for the guy; it ended in a draw. If he looked too injured and was bleeding, the ref would have stopped the fight. Maybe I laid it on a little thick in the blog that my instructor reads. But it's true, I would let this guy work on me any time. Actually, it was bad last night. Usually there is a paramedic at ringside and he does an excellent job (I was a nurse for three years and have worked in med publishing for 18 years). I heard them page the fight doctor to ringside when intermission was ending, but this guy did nothing. The injured fighters were pretty much to bleed, re-gain consciousness, or whatever on their own. I honestly could have done a better job taking care of them. How did I end up going to full contact fights anyway???? Oh yes, I remember, I used to have an incredible friend-crush on my instructor :(
