Somebody stop me please. On Friday I tried canning for the first time ever. Nobody had any major burns, the spills left no permanent damage to the stove, and the jars seem (??) to have sealed properly. I made 7 jars of apple pie filling. Everybody thinks that home preserving is so healthy, but these recipes have an incredible amount of sugar. Take grape jelly---3 lbs of grapes and a whopping 7.5 cups of sugar. The process also seems to waste water.
Oh yes, then over the course of the next two days, I planted 98 bulbs! Got snowed on today too. Come spring, every one of those little buggers better be accounted for or I'll dig up the slackers and scream at them.
