Tomorrow's the big day. I saw an ad at the grocery store. Someone is selling a 95 gal aquarium with a beautiful wooden stand and everything else that goes with it for $300.00. I had been secretly longing to upgrade my 55 gal to a 75. Right before I saw the ad, the plastic part of the tank that holds the glass cover cracked, making it a chore to open the lid to even feed them. Perfect timing! Yes, except that it is January so temperature regulation will be tough. We have a 26 gallon tank that I bought for $6 at a garage sale for hermit crabs. Darned if that thing isn't water tight despite being handled in ways that I never had done had I envisioned it to be used for fish. Maybe they make them better. I am like an expectant parent.
1. Rinse new substrate for plants
2. Try to regulate temperature in the 26 gal despite the fact that it's heater will not go off.
3. Move heater from 55 gal to 26 gal
4. Clear area for movers
5. Remove some equipment like air hose and one filter (maybe)
6. Move fish
7. Siphon out and save as much water as possible in buckets
8. Dig for hidden clams that might still be alive
9. Push 55 out of the way
1. Put substrate in "new tank"
2. Put their gravel in tank
3. Set up filters, etc.
4. Fill
5. Regulate temperature
6. Move happy, lucky fish!
