I just found out that I could be related to the first person ever hung in the Salem Witch Trials. Her name was Bridgett Bishop and she is said to still haunt what used to be her apple orchard, but is now a restaurant. She was probably accused because she didn't quite fit the mold of the Puritan woman. I can trace my Bishop ancestors to Connecticut around the same time period. I can't find her in my geneology book, but maybe she is the Bishop that they don't talk about. She wore red, was jailed a few times, and was quite sassy/outspoken. It figures.
My grandmother always said, "Grandma was a Hatfield". I can't find any Hatfields in the geneology either, and the book is about my grandmother's line. But still, the 'hillbillies' really were descendants of early British settlers I believe. Besides, she probably knew what she was talking about. Maybe he was from her father's side. Maybe both sides......all right, that was low. Sorry to any hillbillies that may happen upon this post.
Put the two together...maybe add the Vikings that were maybe part of my Swedish grandfather's past...and you get....ME.
