About Me
A place to express my thoughts and just ramble. As an amature web designer and writer, there seems so much to learn. By having a blog, I can organize my thoughts, get feedback, and get rid of the junk that flutters around in my head.

Wanting something just beyond reach . . .
For the past 3 weeks I've been revamping my site offline. Late yesterday I realized that I knew that I wouldn't be happy with what I've done as soon as I'd have all of it uploaded to my directory. For the time being I will be leaving my site the way it is and will work on the revamping offline with the Spring of 2006 in mind.
Dispite all the work I have put into something that no one will ever see, I've learned quite a bit about CSS and validating the HTML document so I don't feel that the experience was for nothing.

CSS and My Coaches
I haven't been around here much for the past 2 weeks because I've been focusing on learning CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). For those of you who don't know what CSS is for, my brief description --
Having an organized HTML document is almost impossible when you have everything right in the body of it. Also, if you want people to be able to view your pages right in most types of browsers (Internet Explorer, Foxfire, Opera, etc), CSS is the way to go. CSS is placed before the body of the page between the end title tag and the end head and can define and position most elements on the web page. CSS can also be a seperate document with a link to it before the body.
Because of short-term memory loss due to my disability, it's been difficult for me to learn most things no matter what the subject is. At first I tried to learn this CSS stuff on my own. BIG MISTAKE. I would get so confused and most sites that have free tutorials don't have what I would call competent writers.
Then a lady at Graphic Buds offered to help me. Her name on the web is Miss B who makes me think of a teach I once had so I was definately receptive to her offer. I was still getting confused sometimes so I went to the forum of my host site and asked for some help. A wonderful man who goes by "gdls" on the web came to my rescue. Between messages flying back and forth with gdls and the great examples Miss B is sending me, I am slowly learning CSS.
Of course, because of this new way of doing web pages, I'm revamping my site offline again. *grin*

Fickle
This blog started off with a brick color on the sides, two different hue of gold at the top, and beige for the sidebar. I had picked out the template because I like earth colors. In the meantime, I had decided to change the layout, color scheme, and graphics of my site, GJ Designs, to hues of a plum color. This is still earthy but more subdued. With me having a Virgo personality, of cource I had to change this blog too so that it would be in sync with my site. If you take a peek at my site before the 10th of October though, you won't be seeing the changes I've made.
Now why am I calling this entry Fickle? The changes I'm making to my site are the fifth since May of this year. I started off with hues of pink, of all things. I don't know what I was thinking at the time. I am not a fan of pink by any means. I was hooked on blue for quite awhile - - for about 20 years in fact. I changed my site to hues of blue but that didn't last long either. I had finally moved on from the blue period of my life. I, then, tried hues of wine (brighter than what I have now). That lasted about 2 months. The only reason I changed that scheme was I realized that I'm a person who likes change and decided that maybe I should change my site and blog with the seasons. I chose a color scheme of browns and beiges thinking they would be right for autumn. I did get compliments on it but to me it was a little to dull. The colors you see now are a combination of the wine color and beige color schemes. I just hope I can leave it alone until after the holidays.
