Lately this "food police" crusade this country is on has come to an extreme. I do agree that there is an obesity problem in America but it has precious little to do with fast foods and soda as these food nazis would have you believe.
The key factor is moderation balanced with exercise its not rocket science. Americans in my humble opinion on average have become very aclimated to a sedentary lifestyle, yes there are exceptions but in general tems thats the basic reality in families across America.
Its very easy to make certain foods the culprit and in truth when abused or eaten to excess it may very well be dangerous, especially with a sedentary lifestyle.
Decades ago the children were alot more active, they were not sitting endlessly in front of the laptop, laying on the bed with their ipods, or hours on end with xbox. Also with the advent of the remote control and all the aforementioned advanced technology has been a very significant contributor to a sedentary lifestyle.
Decades ago many toys were low tech, parents took kids to the playground monkey bars, jungle gyms, paralel bars, as kids grew older instead of playing high tech games, we would be outsides playing physically active games like stickball, tag, buck buck, red rover, hide and seek, I declare war, match races with friends on the block a pecking order to decide the fastest, kick ball, kite flying, nd these were just the unorganized games we played on "the block"
In adittion to which were organized games and sports offered by the Boys & Girls Club the Police Atheletic League better known as PAL. Yes these were the "good 'ol days but children drank sodas ate ring dings, twinkies, cupcakes, had their burgers, milkshakes fries, pizza etc. and despite all this there was no obesity factor simply because the calories were burned off as fast as they were taken in because the children's lifestyle in those days we not sedentary as they are today, and also because the diet was balanced, possible because more mom's were at home cooking decent homemade meals that were properly balanced, and desserts were not given unless the meal was eaten. Granted in this day and age moms are in the work force and children are eating meals unsupervides by mom or dad and its mostly junk food out or in the microwave, so now we have created a surrogate parent called "the food police" which I am totally opposed to. Do you as parents really want the government raising your children? I for one do not!
