Sunday, June 25, 2006 - Wake Up Mr President! We Are Not At War
Posted in Unspecified

Ask George W. Bush why his poll numbers are so low and he'll no doubt answer back in his transplanted Kennebunk-redneck drawl with (perhaps not verbatim but certainly very close): "We're at war. People don't like war. Makes ‘em uncomfortable. They're gettin' impatient. I understand that. But stayin' the course is the best way to handle the task at hand. We must honor the ones who have so bravely given their lives for such a noble cause by completing the mission. The American people need to understand we're makin' progress, and we will settle for nothing less than total victory."

The truth, however, in addition to the fact that Bush has yet to define the "mission", is that we are not at war in Iraq, and we have not been for more than three years. The war ended on the first of May, 2003, when our Flunkie-Flyboy-in-Chief hitched a ride with a real pilot, landed on the USS Abraham Lincoln and declared to the world an end to major combat operations, backed by a huge banner that read "Mission Accomplished."

That's the day the illegal war ended and the illegal occupation began.

Iraqis certainly were happy that Saddam was gone and understood that American troops would not disappear immediately after he was toppled. It quickly became obvious, however, that we were staying not for their benefit, but to maintain American control of Iraq's government, its reconstruction (shutting out capable Iraqi firms in the process), and to secure permanent control of their rich oil resources for the sole benefit the Bush cartel and their corporate oil cronies.

Today, Iraqi access to basics like clean water, electricity (which many are going without for repeated six hour stretches), garbage pickup, gasoline (people are waiting in line for as long as twelve hours for a few gallons) and jobs is below pre-invasion levels. Some estimates have the current Iraqi unemployment rate at fifty percent.

While much of their country still lies in ruins, Iraqis are watching American occupiers build multiple permanent military bases and the largest American embassy complex in the world.

Is it any wonder that so many of them are angry enough to be killing Americans? Indeed, by the Pentagon's own estimates, ninety-five percent of the violence directed at our troops is coming from Iraqi civilian insurgents who just want us to get out of their country.

George W. Bush is not leading a war against terrorists in Iraq, or anywhere else for that matter. He is actually inviting the terror, to provide himself with a ready-made excuse to keep wasting the lives and tax dollars that fuel his self-serving imperial mission.

And once again it's just about election time (congressional midterms in November), when voters are traditionally reluctant to make major changes with a "war" going on. America turned that tradition on its ear in 2004, but the Bushies were able to steal another election anyway, by keeping it close with the politics of division and hijacking the vote.

Expect another October surprise for 2006 (no doubt engineered by the Bush cabal), designed to boost Bush's approval rating, keep America divided just enough to allow the neocons to do it all over again, and keep the entire Bush administration in office through the end of his second stolen term (at least).

That is, to maintain the Bush boot-licking majority on Capitol Hill that will vote against impeachment. Because while Democratic party leaders are saying they will not initiate impeachment proceedings if they win control of Congress in November (in open defiance of the fifty-three percent of Americans who say Bush must be impeached for lying about Iraq, and the fifty-two percent who say he must be impeached for his illegal wiretapping scam), they will be forced to vote for impeachment in proceedings initiated by either any of the fifty state legislatures, or any individual citizen, if they hope to maintain any shred of the bogus credibility that makes gullible people vote for them.

This modus operandi should prove, more than anything else, that there is really only one party inside the Beltway " the Corporate Money, Influence Peddling, Power-Mad Fascist Party.

It's in the best nefarious interest of this singular group of self-serving dirtbag politicians for America to remain divided, playing the semantic spin/personal attack/pointless argument game, so they can continue to duck below the radar and systematically gut our Constitutional form of government.

Certainly you're familiar with the term "divide and conquer." That's the mission, folks, which is why you will never hear Bush or any Democrat announce it.

This country needs to wake up, get off its collective lazy behinds and put the ignorant politics aside if we're going to have any chance of saving our republic from the fascist bastards who thrive on our ignorance and apathy.
