The First Baptist Church fired Lambert--who had taught at the church for 54 years--in a letter saying that the church had recently adopted an interpretation that bans women from teaching men.

The letter quoted the first epistle to Timothy: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent."
The Rev. Timothy LaBouf, who also serves on the Watertown City Council, issued a statement saying his stance against women teaching men in Sunday school would not affect his decisions as a city leader in Watertown, where all five members of the council are men but the city manager who runs the city's day-to-day operations is a woman.

"I believe that a woman can perform any job and fulfill any responsibility that she desires to" outside of the church, LaBouf wrote Saturday.

This is unbelievable that they have such a narrow interpretitation of scripture its wrong incorrect and I can take parts of scripture that totally disavow that concept of course I have to defer from this extremist evangelical viewpoint and go to a less extreme concept that being a catholic one where Mary Mother of Jesus had her original sin removed by God known as the Miraculous Conception, Mary was the Mother of Jesus who was God did she speak to Jesus? Did Jesus obey her? yet Jesus is God. Yes Jesus always put God the Father first but he also obeyed his mother could he do anything less..... in obeying His Father's commandment of "Honor thy mother and thy father".
