The U.S. Marine Corps said yesterday that as many as 2,500 inactive service members may be called up on an involuntary basis and returned to combat duty for as long as 2 years, after the Corps failed to find enough volunteers to meet its demands. One group of Iraq war veterans called the move “one of the last steps before resorting to a draft.”
