Dorothy Ann Willis Richards (September 1, 1933 – September 13, 2006) was an American politician from Texas. She first came to national attention as the keynote speaker at the 1988 Democratic National Convention (detailed below). Considered the first woman elected Governor of Texas in her own right, she served in that post from 1991 to 1995; she was defeated for re-election in 1994 by George W. Bush, current President of the United States. Born in Lakeview, Texas, Ann Richards died in Austin, Texas, from esophageal cancer at the age of 73.

Ms. Richards was a champion for Woman's Rights issues, aid to the poor, and and bills that appropiated funds for for medical insurance for poor single moms and their children.

Its extremely sad that she lost the 1994 Gubnertorial race to George Bush the younger and all she fought for was dismantled by the "Fry Them" Governor

Ms Richards was a class act and one of the few politicans that will be deeply missed and appreciated for her valuable and humanitarin contributions to society.
