How do you make a word meaningless? By expanding the definition until it is cheapened into meaninglesness.

What if that word is terrorism?



We've seen it cheapened in the US, as environmental extremists want to apply it to vandalism cases in which no person was targeted, injured or killed. The Bush Adminitstration calls paramilitary action against US troops 'terrorism.' Yesterday, we even saw here in TPB a member refer to law enforcement in the US as 'terrorism.'

Now, the majority of the UN nations want to further cheapen the word to include the US occupation of Iraq and the Israeli invasion of the Lebanon in response to terrorism as terrorsm.

Right now, we are fighting a war on terror, America's first war on an emotion. But, terrorism is meant to produce terror and to disrupt a nation by terror in the absence of military force. Thus, military force, government action of any kind, destruction of private property, and attacks on any military are NOT terrorism.

How can we fight a war against something we can't even define?

Such idiocy cheapens the word, and makes it impossible to have any idea what we are fighting against, or fighting for.
