The term rapid transit is an overly broad and vague term and not always appropiate in the context its used most times, especially by Florida standards. In any event it seems the new rudeness of of 2006 is when a lone person is sitting in a double seat , in this instance a train, many people both male and female seem to want to occupy the vacant seat next to them with insignificant small little items such as a purse, overnight bag, small little shopping bag, satchel etc. to prevent anyone from sitting next to them, even if it winds up standing room only, they rather see you stand than put said items on their lap so a standing passenger can sit down.

Why this is done and why its become so previlant is puzzling, it was not long ago that people practiced civility and would welcome you on the seat next to them with a demure smile and perhaps even friendly conversation. Now its simply not the case, if you politely ask them to move their paraphenalia they give a rude disgusting look, cop an attitude and literally keep the back of their heads turned to you the entire trip treating you as though you were a leper

Its sad american society has become so ill-mannered, it never used to be like that. I remember that in my childhood I was always taught to say please, thank you, yes ma'am yes sir, kindness to the elderly etc etc sadly these things seem like a lost art these days.
