I find myself slightly distressed that Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi said that she was not going to persue impeachment hearings in the house and no plans for an oversight hearings on impeachment which deeply upsets me. We need accountability on many of Bush's abuses, violations on the constitutionality of spying on American citizens, deliberately lying about wmd's and munipulating intelligence reports, diversion of funds the the levee in New Orleans to the funding of the Iraq war, corporate fraud by defense contractors in Iraq, involvement in the Abramoff scandal, Enron, etc etc.
I just hope that Ms. Pelosi did not cut a deal with the White House to forgo oversight hearings to gain bi-partisan support on bills she wants to pass through the house. What Ms. Pelosi has to understand is you do not sell out your constituency, many people voted democratic for the very reason that they wanted accountability, in exit polling 74% said corruption was an important factor in their voting, Ms. Pelosi can figure out the math. By not persuing oversight, its like slapping your supporters in the face and it further intensifies the feelings that the Democrats are no different than the Republicans, both parties are corrupt and simply want to persue their own self interests rather than justice.
What Ms. Pelosi has to understand is that the rule of law trumps any bi partisan bill she wants to push through congress simply for her own legacy and party. If Bush violated the Constitution or his oath to uphold the constitution the only way to find out is through an oversight investigative committee, a president is not above the rule of law, and must be held accountable for his actions. Our first loyalty as citizens and politicians is to the Constitution of the United States of America and if we fail to hold even a President accountable for his abuses of the constitution than we devalue the constitution to nothing more than a worthless piece of paper. Since the American Revolution many Americans died face down in the mud to protect the Constitution ideals and values that we americans hold so dearly in our hearts. Our democracy is defined by our constitution our servicemen take an oath to it our president swears to uphold protect it's values, and when a president abuses that trust, he must be held accountable, and we as citizens must demand it, and if we fail to do so we have failed our American Citizenship
