I
just want to say that I cannot and will not be intimidated by some zealous
religious bigots. I try very hard to be fair and objective on religious issues, most people that have known me long enough and have read my blogs at Journal Home, are aware of this.
I do
not respond well to threats at all and I stand by my friends and will back them
to the wall and will not allow some bigoted Christian Evangelical dictator tell
me who I can have as friends or how to practice my faith and religion. So
please do not leave threatening comments that threaten my life or my friends or
my blogs and I do not need acceptance or or justification from religious
bigots.
As some
of my recent visitors may have noticed, I have totally revamped my blog site
and there were a few factors in motivating me to do this.
- To let bigoted Christians know that Wicca and Witchcraft
Wiccans and Witches are here to
stay we will not be intimated
- That I am proud to display my religious Paganism as
Christians are proud of theirs.
- Finally its part of me and I want to be free to express
the art and culture of my Wiccan faith
I
would like to define the type of witch I am, first Id like to preface that
witches are not evil! Yes I do practice rituals and spell craft etc.
In Wicca,
there is a wide variety of ways that people practice it. There are different
types of witches.
Celtic
Wicca:
Goes
by the elements, the Ancient Ones and nature. They are usually healers or respect
them highly.
They
work with plants, stones, flowers, trees, the elemental people, the gnomes and
the fairies.
Eclectic
Witch:
Doesnt
not follow a particular religion or
tradition. They study and learn from many different systems
and
use what works best for them.
British
Traditional Witch
A
mix of Celtic and Gardenarian beliefs. They train through a degree process and
the covens are usually co-ed.
Alexandrian
Tradition:
They
are said to be modified Gardenarian.
Gardenarian
Tradition:
Follow
a structured root in ceremony and practice. They aren't as much vocal as others
and have a fairly foundational set of customs.
Kitchen
Witch:
It
practices by home and hearth, mainly dealing with practical sides of the
religion, magick, the elements and the earth.
Ceremonial
Witchcraft:
Mainly
use ceremonial magick (obviously) in their practices. They commonly use
Qabbalistic magick or Egyptian magick in their rituals.
Dianic
Tradition:
Includes
a lot of different traditions in one. Their prime focus now-a-days is the
Goddess. It is the more feminist side of 'The Craft'.
Pictish
Witchcraft:
It's
originally from Scotland
and is a solitary form of The Craft. It is more magickal in nature than it is
in religion.
Hereditary
Witch:
Someone
who has been taught the 'Old Religion' through the generations of their family.
Caledonii
Tradition:
Also
known as the Hecatine Tradition, it's the denomination of The Craft with a
Scottish origin.
Pow-Wow:
Comes
from South Central Pennsylvania and is a
system based on a 400 year old Elite German magick. They concentrate on simple
faith healing.
Solitary
Witch:
This
is one who practices alone, without a cover etc"¦"¦ following any tradition.
Strega
Witches:
Originally
coming from Italy are the
known to be the smallest group in the US. It believed their craft is wise
and beautiful.
Now
having stated that there are varying degrees of the above for example there are
many Witches that incorporate Christianity or Christian components to it, lets
face it there are purists on both sides that say Christianity and Wicca should
remain in its purest form and should not be mixed. For me personally I chose to
blend both my Catholicism and Wicca together that is what works best for me.
Dont laugh there are a growing number of women that define themselves as Christian
and or Catholic witches. Many women like me are feminists and are tired of a
male dominated catholic clergy [priests, bishops, cardinals] with their
misogynist anti women policies that treat women as second-class citizens. There
is a growing number of liberal catholic lay women and yes nuns too, that are
dissatisfied with the Vaticans policy of not ordaining women as priests
and do not follow the pro-life policy of the Vatican and are pro-choice Catholics
and believe in a womans reproductive
rights. There is also a growing trend of goddess worship and ritual within the
catholic faith which loosely is a form of Wicca or Witchcraft for example the
order of "The Sisters of Mercy" which is
a Dominican order of Catholic Nuns practice this and even have renowned high priestess
witch Starhawke teaching and working with them in workshops. she works with
many liberal catholic organizations. Women
find Wicca's focus on goddess worship very appealing. I and many women love
many things about Wicca. The worship of both God and Goddess, not one God. As well,
you are able to be your own priest/priestess this concept works well for me.
Wiccans
usually believe that the goal of human life is to live in harmony with nature,
that all of reality is divine, that the spiritual and material world are one
reality, that there is no one true right or only way, that there is a plurality
within the divine oneness, and that ritual practice is the witch's path to
harmony. Practitioners live by one moral law called the "rede," which
says, "As long as it harms no one, do what thou wilt."
In
closing I just wish to urge all to put religious bigotry aside and please show
and express religious tolerance no one and certainly not me, wants to force
Wicca or Witchcraft on anyone but we do demand that you respect us and and our
Wiccan Religion without bigotry or discrimination.
There
are times I have suffered discrimination I proudly wear pagan jewelry such as a
pentagram necklace and anklet bracelet, as well as my Goddess Brigid necklace
etc. and I have been called evil and worse because of it. I am not evil because
I am a witch the same way all Catholics are not all righteous and do commit sins. I will always love and embrace being a Witch and witchcraft I harbor no ill will toward anyone I never use it to harm anyone in accordance with the Rede, as a feminist i embraced the Dianic path and I love the ecco goddess / Mother earth concept and so many other concepts of Wicca and that will not change and I sincerely hope that people can at least respect that.
For the
Christians and Catholics God Bless, and For my fellow Wiccan sisters Blessed Be
and Goddess Bless
