Have you noticed

how thin people eat, the self control they have, and how they have a natural way of just being around food without the need to shovel it down their throats, I HAVE! ( noticed that is)  I hadnt before, but now I have!!! Scene one... my sister and her husband came over for a visit on Sunday, they stopped for lunch on the way over, but in the afternoon having asked them to stay for tea, I opened a bottle of wine ( I passed, stayed on D Coke) and set about serving nibbly foods, rice crackers, some pate and some double brie, some Ritz, now to be fair husband and I hadnt eaten lunch so we were a little peckish, but sitting around the table, chatting and laughing, a huge dent was made in the food and I must say my sister and her husband virtually abstained from partaking in said nibbles!!!

Scene 2 - cooked chicken, made fresh green salads, fresh bread and oven wedges, sis and her husband who are very slim, served themselves normal portions and still had remains on  their plates.

Question? do some people have inbuilt " I am satisfied" controls, why do some people not have this talent???

Question? Why did I have to be the fat one out in the family.

On the other hand I am working towards not being her! And more and more I am realising, its not just about the food and exercise, but also more importantly portion sizes.

So this week my intentions are:

Watch portion sizes - maybe use a smaller plate.

Drink  more water

and aim for 50000 steps in 7 days,

Send me some luck!!!

Portion sizes

This is a HUGE key in the weight loss journey. And it is also one that takes a while to get, and needs constant revisiting. When I started I did use the scales a lot to measure foods. I would come back from grocery shopping and divide up the meat and anything else that has points in it into single serves so I would know how many points I was eating. It really shocked me to realise how much I had been eating. For a while, we only ate off bread and butter plates, but then as I started eating more and more free veges and salads, we moved back up to dinner plates.

I don't think it is inbuilt, I think we all have the ability to learn these things. And we all will :)

Have a great day tomorrow

Calories

More important that Portion size is the amount of calories that you intake in that portion. Remeber that 3500 calories = 1 pound. You have to balance your weekly calorie intake (food) with the calories you use (daily activity/excercise). At the end of the week if you took in 3500 more calories than you used you will gain. On the other hand if at the end of the week you spend more calories than you took in , you loose weight. Portions are good but if your taking in 1000calories in one small portion it wont matter. Try eating 6 to 8 small meals a day and limit your calorie intake to under 3500 calories. I am speaking from experience. I was at 270lbs with a 46 inch waist and decided I needed a change. I changed the way I looked at food and calories, increased my excerise to increase the calories I use and Im down to 215lbs in a 36 inch waist! I hope this gives you another perspective, Stay strong and you will reach your goals!! Best of luck. - J

From Me

I think that some people do have in built 'I'm satisfied' sensors - or maybe it is just that they have learnt that although they may still feel hungry, given the amount of food they have eaten that is enough for them. I have been told that it takes 20 mins for your stomach to send a message to your brain that it is full - I can eat heaps in that 20 minutes - hence the need to lose weight. A smaller plate is a good idea - that way your portion size is easier to control. I know people who only eat off side / bread plates for that reason plus when they dish their meal up - it looks as though they have got heaps to eat when it is on a smaller plate.

Take care and have a great week - good luck with reaching your step challenge !
