Opting out of Comments

Posted in News
Some of you might have noticed that I added the option to be notificed when there was a new comment. This was great to keep you informed with all the comments you have taken part in all over the place.
But there was never an option to opt-out of the notification.
That minor detail has now been resolved and every email about a new comment will now give you an option to opt-out of the notifications.

In other news, I am looking for new stuff to add to JournalHome, so please let me know if there is anything that you would like me to add.
Maybe improve the Profile page?
Change the friend system?
Anything, I am open to suggestions.

I am also thinking of adding an option for comments, where registered users can add links and simllies and so on, but unregistered users cannot. This should curb some of the spam comments that I have to 'clean' every morning.

Profile page

Well, it would be nice if I could edit my profile page thru my template in order to add categories. It would be especially great if you could invent a tag that made certain content publically available and other content visible to registered users only!

For example, I have a publically visible email address where I don't mind receiving spam, but emails from admin@journalhome.com don't get thru there. I do wish to be able to hide my hotmail address from unregistered users, while registered users can email me there by clicking on email me. If I could hide the 'email me' link from the public eye, it would enable me to make my profile public again.

Also, smilies in comments is a cool idea. Sad thing is, that this bloghost already offers quite a bit of freedom compared to others I have tried, and certainly the two I'm currently using, so there I have no possibilities for improvement to refer to.

If any of this sounds like a good idea, let me know when you're making the changes!

PS, if you're also the Florent running MyPict.eu... Any chance it's coming back soon!?

Ideas

Thanks for all the ideas, I will try to implement them slowly.
I am just waiting to see if others have more input.

And I am the Florent of MyPict.eu :), I will contact the ISP to get more bandwidth from them.

Hi FFMG!

I hate logging onto Journalhome to find that almost all of the visible posts are from one user. I think it would be great if the visible posts could be limited to about 2-3 per user. I know it's great that people use the site and post, but multiple posts by the same user pushes other posters off of the homepage. Seeing parts of the posts makes it easy for visitors to find people with whom they have things in common, blogs that they feel like commenting on, etc.
Thanks so much for letting us voice our ideas.

Multiple posts.

Yes, I agree with you and I will try and think of a way of displaying multiple posts from same posters.
I also know who you are talking about :)
Maybe, (just a thought), I could one post and offer a link to other posts from that users?

I will play around with some ideas over the week-end and see what I can come up with.
But I also agree with your latest entry, that some users posts a lot the first time but then move on fairly quickly, (or tend to post less as time passes).

Multiple posts

Yeah, great idea, showing one post, and a few links, probably only to entries written in the past 24 to 48 hours or so, or the three most recent ones.

Thanks once again for your attentiveness (is that a word?) and your understanding. I would hate above all things to be considered, I believe it is, a "forum troll" or some similar term that means that I try to be a patrolling bully of a site. I love seeing new J/H members and I truly have the well being of your business in mind...still, THIS ISN'T THE "RoSS Show"!

How does that look?

I have grouped them by weblogs now so it should make it easier to see what is new and what is not...

What do you guys think?

JournalHome - 7:22 AM - 6/16/2007

Yeah, looks good to me

The title says it all.
