JournalHome on Safari

Posted in News
I was watching Click Online the other day and I saw that Apple has released a new browser for windows, (well technically Safari for Apple has been around for a while), it looks very nice indeed.

So of course the first thing I did was to see what JournalHome looks like to an apple user and I am pleasantly surprised.
The editor does not work, (but that's their fault!), but apart from that it looks ok. So you need to remember to use HTML code all over the place.
I will make some changes, just for Safari users, to make it easier for them to use journal home, (as well as fix a few quirky things).

Then I will get started on adding a proper tagging system for Journal home as well as a better 'Friends' options. I just want to do some more research on that so I have a good idea of what I need to do.
If you know of other sites that have good 'Friends' and 'Tags' system/settings that you would like JournalHome to use, let me know. No need for me to re-invent the wheel if there is already a nice way of doing things. My wife is a big fan of FaceBook so I might have to do something similar to them.

Dutchboy had a great idea of making certain profile information public while keeping other information private so I will look into that as well at some stage.

I will also spend some time adding more Statistics information to the user page, I did have a look at it over the weekend, but I kind of gave up in the end :).
So let me know if you know of features that other sites have that you think I should incorporate in JournalHome.

Thanks for mentioning me. I do have one remark about that paragraph. Public v private is already available, eh? What you could do is just add a third option on the profile settings page, which says 'friends only', where is now says 'show ...', followed by 'yes' and 'no'.

Anyways, the only real complaint I have in this matter is the fact that if I make my profile publically available, it doesn't matter whether I choose to hide my email address or not, it keeps coming up in the bottom left corner no matter if I'm signed on or off.

If that could be fixed, I'm happy, although I wouldn't mind if it were possible to add more categories to my profile, that don't have to link to a page showing all users with the same interests.

Public vs Private

What I was trying to say is that I would change the whole profile thing and you could choose what is private/public.

So for example you would have your email address set to 'friends only' but your list of friends would be public, for example.

That would be better than the current way of hiding/showing everything.

But I am still thinking of a few ways of doing it so nothing is set in stone yet.
