Windows Live Writer Tutorial

Posted in News

Hi,

If you want to setup JournalHome.com to use Windows Live Writer then you can follow this very simple steps.
Note WLW, (Windows Live Write), is still in Beta but I doubt that it will change much. It might also look a bit different depending on the language you use but hopefully you will get the idea.

Remember also that you need to have a blog here first so signup now!

So...

  1. Download  Windows Live Writer, (go on their site and you will find it there), it is free.
  2. wlw_welcomeStart the install and you should see a pretty screen welcoming you to the wonderful world of Microsoft. Press 'Next'.
  3. wlw_choose The next screen will ask you to choose the kind of weblog. Choose "Another Weblog Service" and press 'Next'.
  4. wlw_login1 You then need to enter your weblog details. You need to enter the address of YOUR blog. So in my case, because my blog is called 'JournalHome', I enter http://www.journalhome.com/JournalHome.
  5. wlw_login2 You then need to enter Your Username and password. Because I lack imagination, my username is the same as my weblog, JournalHome and my password is... well you get the idea.
Your username and password are case sensitive!!
    Press 'Next'.
  6. wlw_settings1 Then WLW will do its thing, (ask JournalHome.com if everything is ok.
If there is a problem check your password, username, blog address and start again.
  7. wlw_settings2 WLW wants to get some info about your blog, especially about the look and feel of it. So if it is not sure, (especially if you have some weird and complex template), then it will ask you to post a quick 'fake' post on your blog. This is not really needed but you can do it if you want.
  8. wlw_settings3 Then the last step is to change the name of your blog, you don't have to change it. But if you want...you can.
    Press the 'Finish' button.
  9. wlw_default Tada... you can now create your posts and play around nicely.

As a side note if you want to see/edit your old posts, simply press the 'Open' button on the toolbar and it should all make sense.

Let me know if you have any questions.
