At work today and the 2007 rugby world cup

Posted in News

I have been quite busy lately at my 'real' job and now I have to work on a Saturday to catch up with some work.

Unfortunately the company chose Saturday, (been a quiet day), to do some renovation about 10 meters away from my little cubical. If I wasn't happy to be here in the first place I am now. But I guess I cannot blame them either.

I also watched the rugby world cup opening game last night, it is hosted in France. I must admit that I have never seen such a odd ceremony, there was no theme to it, the people were running around, (I guess you could say they were dancing). I am not much of an artist so I should not complain, but I'd like to believe that I am also not too stupid, and if I did not understand the message they were trying to bring across then I guess it was a failure.

The opening game itself was a shocker, France should have won the game, (been the hosts and all), but, well, they didn't.

The referee was bad, but at least he was equally bad for both sides. I think he made some crucial mistakes that might have cost France the game in the end, (but what do I know?).

I am going out to some dinner/drinks with the wife's friends tonight. They are more like work colleagues of hers, so those kind of dinners can be quite boring, (especially for me as I wont know anybody).

Those of you who, (like me), use the Windows Live Writer, they have released a new version of the writer.

I have to agree with you on the opening ceremony. Dull, not thought thru, etc. Usually I think Olympic and World Cup football ceremonies are over the top, and this was the other extreme.

Also, one thing I like about rugby is the fact that they wear minamal protection. What was with the shoulder pads and the helmets. We're not watching the world cup of American football, are we?

Too bad I only have a French station, TV5, that covers the cup. They will only show 12 games. Four years ago I could watch every game I felt like.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed Argentina beating the French, although I think we, the Northern hemisphere should hold on the cup a little longer.

One other thing. Any experience with paiq.exe? No spyware scanner the library uses recognizes it as spyware, but I hear conflicting stories. Some call it a blessing and others call it spyware. It keeps popping up upon logging in. I've looked up a good number of sites on the subject, and they're inconclusive. Maybe you've heard something.

Northern Hemisphere

I agree with you, of course I would want England to keep the cup.
But let's be realistic, there is no way that the cup will remain in the Northern hemisphere.
Here, (in South Africa), they have some very high hopes, and I must admit that New Zealand and South Africa are looking good this year.

Been one of the few foreigners here you can imagine the jokes/bets that are been passed around at our expense.
I just want a northern Hemisphere team to do 'ok'.
