Tuesday, June 17, 2008 - Killer Cat
Posted in Personal Musings

Cooper lay at my feet, licking his furry paws.

     “Cooper, stop licking!” I scold.

     Slurp! Slurp! Slurp!

     “Cooper, I said stop it!”

     Slurp! Slurp! Slurp!

“What are you doing?” I say as I look down at my feet and Cooper.

     Slurp! Slurp! Slurp!

Cooper is now licking the floor. His long pink tongue laps at the hardwood floor.

“Cooper, what are you licking?” I push his head away to see what has his interest.  There under his paws and under his nose are scales. Fish scales. Scales from the little tetra that Sam the Killer Cat had impaled with his claws and devoured for a snack the day before. “Awe, Cooper,” I whine.

I get up and go to the kitchen sink to obtain a wet sponge. I wipe up the scales that are dried and spread over a small area of the hardwood floor. I look to the left to see another patch of fish scales. There can be no mistaken. Sam had enjoyed the tetra and left remnants – scales – a little reminder of what was left of the fish.

I wipe up the other small patch of scales. “All gone, Cooper.” Yes, the little tetra is just that – all gone.

Monday, June 16, 2008 - Where's the fish?
I have an aquarium. It's a nice 29 gallon tank that sits in my kitchen area. I planned a community tank with social fish, nothing aggressive. As time has progressed, my little fish have become big fish, but still pretty social.  I have a Plecostomus, a rainbow shark, an iridescent shark, an African frog, a couple of small algae eaters and two tetras, an orange and a silver with black.
The other day as I was peering into the tank, I noticed my little tetra was being pursued by the rainbow shark. Now the rainbow has a couple inches on the little guy, but the tetra has a bit of speed. He swam to the corner and hid behind the heater. He then shot to the other side and hid behind the filter. But it didn’t end there. He shot across the tank and then hid under the greenery.  The shark was on his tail, nipping a piece, shredding the fin. Poor little guy! Someone needed a time out!
I grabbed my net and attempted to scoop out the rainbow shark. If I did that, I wasn’t sure if the one gallon tank would hold the shark. My bigger fear was the shark would jump out of the tank, so I scooped the tetra instead and placed him carefully into the little tank.  The little guy scooted from corner to corner looking for a place to hide. The small fake plant in the center of the tank did little to provide coverage.  As the tetra swam around, his frantic movements became more fluid and less anxious. Oh my gosh! He was alone in the tank. No shark! He swam from side to side, obviously happy.
Meanwhile in the other tank, the rainbow shark swam lazily throughout the tank looking for the little guy. Oh well. Little did he know, the tetra was swimming happily in the one gallon tank without the stress of pursuit.
Before I turned in for the night, I checked the tanks, turned off the lights, and went to bed.
I the morning, I turned on the lights, checked the tank, and fed the fish. Everyone looked happy. I picked up RJ after he drove in from Wisconsin and told him about the tetra and shark incident and how I have saved the little guy from the big bad shark. He laughed.
When we got home, he walked over to the little tank and asked, “Where’s the fish?”
     “In the tank,” I said.
     “No it’s not.”
     “Yes, it is.”
     “No… it’s not.”
I peered into the tank. No fish. There was Sam, my cat, sitting on the floor, licking his lips, and meowing with a smile on his face. I had saved my tetra from the big bad shark to become Sam’s lunch. Agh! I guess I can’t change destiny.

Friday, June 6, 2008 - Herbs, work, and JC
Posted in Life at the Inn
I have been so busy since RJ left on another excursion. Between guests, gardening, baking, cleaning, my time has been at a premium.  This morning, 2 of my guests asked if they could walk Bentley and Cooper.  What a godsend!  The boys really enjoyed walking in the MacKay Nature Reserve. I managed to finish planting today. All the pots are out and filled with the most gorgeous colors. Even my herb garden is taking off.  You would not believe my mint! I have it growing next to the fountain. It's already 2 feet high and full of big, beautiful leaves and flavorful. The scent is full and strong.  The leaves will be fabulous in ice tea!  My chives are florishing! It looks like it will be a great season for herbs.
I picked up a couple of good movies: 28 Weeks Later, Sweeney Todd:The Demon Barber, and Cloverfield. What a nice selection of movies: a zombie flick, horror musical, and a creature feature. God, I love the genre! I just finished "The Gingerbread Girl" by Stephen King. Good story! I really think his recent work is so good. I loved Duma Key. So many books - so little time.
I hope the weather holds for tomorrow. I would like to finish the flower beds and finish weeding the front of the Inn. It takes so long since we have quite a lot of property to maintain.  It is so much easier when RJ is around.
On an aside, I would like to acknowledge my brother-in-law, JC. He called to tell me I never mention him in my blog except to call him my brother-in-law. So hence forth, I will refer to my brother-in-law as JC and he will not have "a bone to pick with me" anymore.  So JC, this is for you...  Good night, all. See you tomorrow.

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - Away too long...
Posted in Life at the Inn
I cannot believe that I haven't written in such a long time. The days really slip away at the Inn when season hits. My next day off is June 11, and with a little bit of luck, that day will go away and it won't be until the end of the month that I have a day. Actually that's really okay. It's back to the old  adage "Make hay while the sun shines!"
We have been busy with guests, meetings, and work around the Inn. I've managed to finish 3 of the flower beds, which will leave 2 more. And that's just the garden in front of the gazebo.  I still have the garden next to the McGinnis Room and the fountain to tend.  RJ got the pump working today, Yea! $400 later, the fountain is shooting 20 feet into the air. It is so high now that it can be seen by the rooms on the second floor.  I managed to get to Buffalo visit Aunt Arlene. She is having some work done on her house and invited me over as the house was being inspected. All went well and she is moving on to the next project. (Gee, sounds like me... one project after another!)
I went out with RJ and friends to see Ironman. It is definitely worth seeing. Robert Downing, Jr. was great, the story line was interesting, and the diaglogue well done.  Then I watched Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp. I really like him as an actor and he did not disappoint me in this one either. He is not a professional singer, but did a remarkable job in this musical. It certainly didn't hurt that I liked the story. It's based on The Barber of Serville.  Good job, Johnny.
We had a dinner meeting here this week. Those are tough days. I go all morning with breakfast and rooms to turn around and get back into the kitchen for dinner. Unfortunately, on that day I needed to pick up supplies, too, because of the holiday. It just got to be a long, crazy day. I crashed big time and got up early to take care of my guests who were leaving early. Tomorrow will be another early morning. My guests are all businessmen and need to out by 7:00 AM and we have more guests checking-in tomorrow afternoon. I have another meeting tomorrow so RJ will be left behind to check everyone in.
Ah, and so the saga of the Innkeeper goes on. Now if I could add a little more time to my days, I think I might be able to keep up with my life.

Thursday, May 15, 2008 - Full day
Posted in Life at the Inn
We had a lovely breakfast with my guests from Massachusetts and Canada. Good conversation and a lot of laughter.  Once everyone had checked out, the daily work began. I was afraid to start working outside because I knew I would never get my inside work done.  I cleaned rooms, laundered, vacuumed, washed floors, washed dishes, cleaned the kitchen, and I was able to get 2 coats of paint on the bathroom walls in the Barcklow before I called it a day and went home. Once I got home, I took care of the dogs, weeded part of the front yard, grabbed a bite to eat (leftovers again), baked Italian bread, and ripped out 3 hems that I needed to redo to finished my curtains for the French doors. That was enough for today.
Tomorrow I have 9 rooms coming in. I thought in the morning I would bake another cranberry nut bread and an herb bread and finish my curtains. It's late and I need to go to bed. I'll have a tough time getting up in the morning if I stay up any later.  I have things to write in the morning so it's time to call it a day... a day. Good night.

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 - A Thought
Posted in Life at the Inn
I'm sitting here looking at a blank page wondering if anyone really cares about what I have to say.  Sometimes I think that when I write I then know what I want to say. A very dear friend of mine once said that "writing was the inking of our thinking."  She was right. I think I know what I want to say, but it isn't until I actually put in down on paper that it takes form, gives meaning to my ideas, or claifies my ideas.  I wish I had more time to write.  My life gets busy and sometimes down right hectic. Today I baked 6 dozen cookies, hoping that it will get me through the weekend. I am not very hopeful. The inn smelled delicious. I gave a tour of the inn and the potential guests commented on how wonderful the inn smelled. The delectable scent of warm chocolate drifted from the kitchen into the parlor and on to the dining room. I have to admit, that delicious aroma was still in the inn when I left to go home to feed the dogs and take care of the cat.
It will be busy again tomorrow. The weather is getting warmer and there is outside work to do. I think I'll finish painting tomorrow.

Monday, May 12, 2008 - On the Road Again!
Posted in Life at the Inn
RJ woke up this morning and took the dogs for a walk. By the time he returned, the phone was ringing and he was dispatched to Maryland for storm duty. This time he was only home for 3 1/2 days! Thank goodness he's retired; otherwise he probably wouldn't be home at all.
In the meantime, the work at the Inn is continuing, just not as fast with him gone. I have guests coming in early tomorrow, so in the morning, I will be baking breads and then working outside in the gardens.  I have half the beds cleared and planted. Time to mulch before it rains. Then I move indoors to paint the Barcklow bathroom before guests this weekend. The curtains I made needed to be rehemmed. Measure twice; sew once. Well, I didn't, so I am ripping and resewing. Oh well. This weekend is close to a full house, so the girls will be coming in to lend a hand.  It is close to impossible to flip the house without help. With so many guests, I spend most of my time cooking and cleaning up the kitchen.
I finished The Summoning by Bentley Little today. It was an easy read. I'm half way through The Wheel of Darkness by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. My next book is Deep Storm by Lincoln Child. So many books; so little time. Tomorrow I'll have more time to write. I'm ready to work on my novel.  Sometimes it just takes time before the characters are ready to tell the rest of the story.  I wrote down a few lines while sitting the truck waiting for RJ and the story just starting to come together again.  I can't wait to see where it goes.
I am almost finished with J & J's bridal shower invitations. It will be good to get those out by next weekend. I should be able to print them as soon as I get the page set-up to work. I'd like to feed the invitation directly into my printer. I think that will work with a little tweaking. I like them. A bit of green and black (their wedding colors) on an elegant card stock makes all the difference in the world.
Which reminds me, I have to send M my brochure so he can put it up on the web. AND my newsletter... What in the world am I waiting for??? I swear I could use about 4 more hours in my day. That would work!

Sunday, May 11, 2008 - A Day for Moms!
Posted in Slice of Life
Happy Mothers Day to all! What a wonderful day! We had guests last night, so this morning, the moms received a delicate wooden rose as a gift and a sumptous breakfast to celebrate. We had such a good time. Our moms came from Pennsylvania, Quebec, and New York.  My boys called to wish me a wonderful day and asked if I was taking the day off. Ha! "Not today," I said. "Tomorrow. Tomorrow I will take a day." It's supposed to rain tomorrow. I think it would be a good day to sew or knit or read or write or do whatever my heart desires.  RJ is going to put in the new pedestal sink in the Stewart Room. Yea! That will finish off that room and it will look beautiful.  Then on Tuesday, the weather is going to be great - 70 degrees - working in the garden weather.  Perfect! And I have guests coming in on that day... so it begins for the week.
For Mother's Day, my niece and nephew invited us over for dinner, which was lovely and very enjoyable. I had a chance to visit with my great nephews (God, I'm getting old) and my sister-in-law and brother-in-law. The Lilac Festival is going on in Rochester for the next week. I love going. The flowers are gorgeous and I usually can get some really great pictures.  The Genesee Country Village and Museum had their opening day today and moms got in for free. It looks like we have a wonderful season upcoming.  So to all those moms out there, I hope your day was grand. Smile and be thankful. We have been given a gift - our children.

Saturday, May 10, 2008 - Clever Sam
Posted in Slice of Life
Sam was outside again today. I can't figure out how he was getting out. RJ said, "You didn't close the door when you left."  I know I did. No sense contradicting him. I am sure I close the door. I scooped Sam up as I returned to the house. I put him on the floor.
"Okay, guys," I said to Bentley and Cooper, " who let the cat out?"
Bentley and Cooper looked at me with those beautiful brown eyes and question marks above their heads. Of course, they have no idea who let the cat out or for that matter, what I'm saying.  I went into the dining room to work on my curtains when I hear Sam crying, crying loudly, at the door. Then I heard a rattling of the door. I looked on the floor. Yes, the boys were sleeping at my feet. So who in the world was rattling my storm door. I heard it again. This time I heard a plop on the floor. I got up and went into the kitchen to watch Sam stretch out and push the door handle, opening the door and letting himself out. So it appears that it was the cat who let himself out. Hmmmm.... clever cat!

Thursday, May 8, 2008 - More High School Stuff
Posted in Slice of Life
As she approached Mrs. Upton's English class, she could feel her heart begin to race. It wasn't the teacher that caused her to feel anxious but the others that shared these 42 minutes with her. Forty-two dreadful minutes where she will sit in the third seat, second row, more or less in the middle of the class, exposed.  Mrs. Upton will calll upon her to answer questions about the homework or the reading and she will have to endure the snickers of the others.  She will sit there and try to disappear into her seat, but no avail.
There will be a quiz on last night's reading and the boys seated on each side of her will glance at her paper for the answers because she will have done the homework. The girls in front of her and behind will whisper and glance over their shoulder at her and give her dirty looks.  She will sit with her head down, afraid to look up.

Saturday, May 3, 2008 - More HS
Posted in Slice of Life
I finished 19 Minutes today by Jodi Picoult. I listened as Josie lies about her involvement with Peter. She so wanted to be part of the "in crowd" - the popular kids. She even puts up with an abusive boyfriend who "loves" her just to be connected to the "right" people because if she is connected then she is not one of the targets.  Her girlfriend accesses one of her private emails that comes from Peter (a boy who is a real outsider and a target of many of the kids at this HS). In the email, he professes his love to Josie. Courtney, her "friend" (and I use that word losely) spams out Peter's personal email to Jose to the entire school.
Several times in the story, Josie goes along with the abuse to Peter because, as she says, if they are abusing Peter, they are not abusing her. I was angry at Courtney for her fake friendship with Josie and I was angry at Matt, her boyfriend, for taking advantage of Josie. Josie admits that she is just not strong enough to take control of the situation.  I think it can happen to anyone. Some kids need to put other kids down in order to feel good about themselves. And I am sure that behavior carries over into adulthood. What can we do to stop bullying in the schools and in other social situations? I bet there is not one person who can't think of a time when they were caught in a situation that that made them just feel bad because of the actions of others.
As a high school student, I looked the other way and hoped that "they" would pick on someone else and just leave me alone. I didn't react to any of their taunts and was left alone for the most part except for the occasional jab. I was isolated, which can be just as bad.
I had a wonderful life at home and friends in my neighborhood that did not go to my school. That gave me a bit of a reprieve. Others were not so fortunate.  If being cruel was part of the "in crowd" then I am glad that I was not part of that group.

Friday, May 2, 2008 - 19 Minutes
Posted in Slice of Life
I've listening to 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult, an excellent read abount a school shooting and bullying that happens in school. Interestingly, I was visiting with my sister-in-law and we took a walk down Memory Lane. Both of us went to the same high school, but I was a year ahead of her with her brother.  Listening to her, you would never know that we went to the same school. I thought about all the horrible things that happened to me while in school because I was not part of the "in crowd." And the funny thing is I don't know how I even got there. Kids were cruel, but I think they were cruel even to each other, no only the "outsiders."  As I looked back on those days, I can't imagine what would have happened if I was a "target." I was just overlooked, ignored. I didn't enjoy high school and looked forward to college. I was not unhappy when I finally graduated. In fact, on graduation day, when it was my turn to walk across that stage, the teacher who was announcing names, said my name wrong. I was part of that school from 7th grade to 12th, and he was my math teacher. It just reinforced my position in the school.
What happens to those kids that are targets?  I think that is why I became the teacher and administrator that I was. I was there to champion those who had no one to support them. I wish I would have had a teacher there for me.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008 - Another Trip
Posted in Life at the Inn
This time RJ was home for the weekend. He's been battling some congestion and a bitter cough. This morning he was dispatched to Suffolk, Virginia, with the Travelers Mobil Office to help out with the tornado victims. I hadn't expected him to leave so quickly considering he had been gone for 3 weeks, traveling thorugh Plano, Texas, and on to Indiana. His stay home was way too short, but he was able to fix one of bathrooms for me and help with some maintenance items that have accumulated. More later.

Friday, April 25, 2008 - It must be me!
Posted in Life at the Inn
I swear, it must be me! I just have been so busy with just stuff that I haven't had time for any. RJ finally made it home. Three weeks is a long time. Unfortunately this trip really wore him down and he's a bit under the weathe, which means today was a recup day.
Wednesday, my niece had a beautiful 7# 8oz baby boy! There is always a lot of excitement when a baby is born. I am almost finished with his baby sweater. I'd like to have it done so I can talke it with me when I stop by to see the baby over the weekend.
In the meantime, I've been sewing the new curtians for the Barcklow Room. I have these gorgeous French doors that need window treatments to provide privacy for those who would like to watch TV or read and not disturb those in the bedroom.
J and J are making their wedding plans and I've got to get moving with reserving rooms and getting plane tickets. I know it's early, but I want to have this part finished so I can concentrate on other things with the wedding. I don't even have a dress for this event. (At least I've lost 5 pounds - 15 to go)
So of course, I've had no time to write - anything!  I feel like I'll just go crazy if I don't get my butt in the chair and start putting words to paper. My finished my other travel article and now I'm on to the next. I have one more chapter to edit for collection I'm editing, but my novel sits waiting for me.  I still think if I had my own space to work, I wouldn't feel so.. so...  unproductive.  You know, I haven't even finished my newsletter. Aghh! My brochure needs to be reviewed and  sent out to M so he can put it up on my web site. Sometimes , I can't figure out why I can't get this stuff finished.  Not enough hours in my day... that's the problem. I don't have any time to waste. Every hour taken. And tomorrow will be no different.  Guests tomorrow and Sunday.
I wonder when RJ is heading out again. I think by Monday or Tuesday. It'll just be an overnight. That won't be too bad. More tomorrow...

Saturday, April 19, 2008 - New Technology!
Posted in Life at the Inn

Today I bit the bullet, so to speak, and bought a new phone. My old one was on its last leg.  After numerous drops into toilets and on the ground, it finally was starting to rebel. In fact, now when I turn it on, it has these squiggly lines going through the center of the display making it near impossible to read the numbers.

Palm has come out with a new phone called Centro. Pretty cool. It has a touch screen just like my Palm so I didn’t have to learn a lot of new software.  That in itself is a real time saver.  It’s easy to use. Easy to read the display and has more features that I think I may every use – at least today.  It has email, internet. Bluetooth, calendar, and it all syncs to my laptop, which is even better. In fact, my Palm can sync to my phone as well as my laptop. That is just way too cool.  In fact, my 4G memory card allows me to store 1000 songs or 9600 images or 1280 minutes of video AND it all can be downloaded to my laptop.  Of course, if I’m going to have all this new technology, I might as well go all the way and get a Bluetooth headset. Again, new technology. It is so small and unobtrusive, you can hardly feel it in your ear. Plus now my phone can use the Bluetooth in the car, too. And it can beam and print.  In fact, with all the rebates from Sprint, this phone was actually affordable.

Welcome to the 21st century. Embrace it. It’s not going away!

Friday, April 18, 2008 - Too Good to Stop
Posted in Life at the Inn

Do you remember when I told you all about getting caught up in Duma Key by Stephen King? Well, today I’m nearing the end of the story and I just can’t wait to finish. But I have so much to do around here that I can’t just stay inside and listen to this story. Ah, I have an idea! I’ll listen to the CD on my car radio. What a thought! So out I go, move my car to the garden where I will be working, and get all my tools and garden equipment. I open the cargo hatch, put in my CD, and crank it up. The story takes me away to another time and place as I rake the leaves and clear the paths. The story continues to hold my interest and I’m not even aware of the time slipping away and the afternoon sun moving across the sky.

Right in the middle of a very fascinating part, the reader abruptly stops reading. Hmmm… why could that be? I return to the driver’s seat and fuss with the radio. The clock stills shows that time, but when I turn the key… nothing… just a click, click, click. Aha! Battery! What was I thinking? Leave the radio on long enough without the car running and Viola! No battery. Dumb, very dumb.

So off I go to get the other car to jump start the truck. I called Richard to whine and complain and ask him if he’ll walk me through a jump. I’ve read about how to it, but I’ve never in my 57 years had to actually do it. RJ reassured me that the battery was probably going anyway since it’s the original battery in my 2002 truck. It didn’t really make me feel any better. I still felt dumb.  Step-by-step, RJ told me how to hook up the cables and charge up my battery. I was so excited that I was able to do it that I cried. He laughed over the phone and to told me I should really make arrangements to get a new battery installed so I don’t get stranded somewhere when I’m out and about. The good news is that by RJ empowering me, I now can take care of myself if something should ever happen with my battery again. And that is a very good feeling.

Friday, April 18, 2008 - Paint and Flowers
Posted in Life at the Inn

Okay, I stopped at Home Depot on my way back from dinner with Linda and selected several sage greens that are more to my liking. I knew when I got up this morning and peered out at the Inn from the little house and saw that color, I knew that it was not going to work and I would need to choose something else.  I swear, it looked like track housing.  Too light, too green. It had no contrast with the stone part of the Inn and looked, well, it looked pitiful.  I’ve decided to use a pure white for the trim, dark green on the back door and rustic red on the front door amid the stone entrance way.  I think tomorrow I’ll run out in the morning and pick up the right color.

The weatherman said it will be in the 70-75 – good day for working outside. I have a bit of writing to finish and then I’ll have some time for myself.  I finished making my notecards this morning.

Oh yea. Remember I said I had this new recipe to try out? Well, I made it this morning knowing I would share with my committee members and hopefully get some honest feedback. It sure smelled good. Everyone said it good. Then I took a bite and said I didn’t care for the taste. I felt it should have been a bit sweeter. Others started to agree and I finally got to the bottom for what was missing.  I think no one wanted to hurt my feelings. Actually no one did. The criticism was constructive.  The tea cake was good but not my best.  It’s nothing like my Cranberry Nut Bread.  So I think I will have to revisit this recipe and see what I can do to make it better.  I know I’m on to something. It’s just not quite right yet.

The flowers are coming into bloom now in front of the Inn and filling in the front walkway and the scent is heavenly and fragrant.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 - Decisions
Posted in Life at the Inn

I started painting the exterior of the Inn today. A soft sage green. I wasn’t sure I would like it, but after the second coat on a section of side clapboard, it looks like the color will blend quite nicely with the stone exterior and the stucco on the second floor. Tomorrow I’ll finish the side before my meeting at 3:00 PM. That should be the deciding factor. I think once I see the entire side, I’ll be able to make a decision. The worse case scenario, I’ll need to select a darker color and it will cost me a can of Behr paint.  Better to make that decision now rather than after I’ve bought gallons of this stuff.

The weather today was gorgeous…perfect day to work outside. I cleaned inside after my guests last night, but headed outside as soon as I finished.

By 6:00 PM, I was finished with my outside work and decided to move my efforts indoors at the little house.  I finally got to updating my calendar for the events in the area and Michael linked it to my site so now I can update it myself whenever.  My press release is almost finished (about time) and then I’ll move on to my newsletter. I found a template I really like. Most of the stories are already written along with a couple of recipes. Once I send this one out, the rest will be easy to do. It’s always the first one that is difficult.  Fortunately, they get better each time.

Tomorrow will be pretty busy. I have baking to do in the morning for my afternoon meeting. The Inn is ready. It’s just the refreshments and set-up, so I will have time to paint in the late morning after my breads come out of the oven.  I broke down and brought a set of new cookware. Since I’ve been doing more dinners, I bring my cookware from the little house to the Inn and then back again.  It’s just getting crazy. When I was out shopping the other day, I found a complete set out of the box that the manager was willing to sell to me at 50% off. Needless to say, I scooped it up before someone else decided they had to have it. Now I have to decide if I want to keep it at the little house or move it up to the Inn. Oh my, decisions, decisions.

Monday, April 14, 2008 - Broken
Posted in Life at the Inn

I am so frustrated with myself. I’ve been listening to Duma Key by Stephen King and am totally enthralled with the story. In the middle of disk 3, my phone rings and I grope for my CD player to “Pause” so I can take the call. Unfortunately, I turn and the CD player crashes to the tile floor. Need I say more?  A crack, a spring, a case that won’t close, and a weird sound when I attempt to press “Play” greets me. Damn… Now what? The radio with a CD player read “ERROR” when I insert the disk. The CD player in the living room is attached to other equipment and is too complicated to work and I certainly can’t carry around my laptop to hear the rest of the story. I’m crushed. My husband bought me that player because he knows that when I can’t read because of other work I’m doing, my CD player allows me to hear the unabridged books that I don’t always have time to read. I’m afraid that if I did actually read all the books I listen to, I probably wouldn’t be doing anything else besides read and write.

So now I’m at a loss – stuck in the middle of a story and craving to hear what happens next. This book reminds me of the King of old. The Shining King or The Stand King. The King that really told a good tale. I care about this one and I can’t hear anymore of it until I figure out a way to play the rest of the disks.

I really can’t go out and just buy another CD player. That is not an option right now, so I’ll have to see if I have a CD player at the Inn I can bring over so I can listen to the story while I work over at the little house.

It’s not the first time I did something this stupid and I’m sure it won’t be the last. I just feel bad for being so clumsy.
