Summer freaking bites.I don't know about anyone else, but out of all the seasons of the year, Summer is definetly my least favorite. I, literally, and excuse the pun, hate Summer with a burning passion. Granted, our Summer so far hasn't been that hot, YET, but trust me, it will be, and it will get HOT. It's not even so much the heat that bothers me the most; being a super skinny person, I can take my fair share of dry heat. It's the humidity and the bugs that bother me the most. For one, humidity makes me sweat like a mofo, and the bugs... bleh. I have a bug phobia like you can't believe, especially towards spiders, crickets and Junebugs. Junebugs are probably the worst, because they're stupid, and they won't just fly into something, they basically crash land into it. And ever since I got one stuck into my once very long and frizzy hair (totally traumatic, I know), it just hasn't been the same.
Truthfully, the best season of the year is Autumn. Not just because that's when my birthday is, but because of the beauty of the multicolored leaves, and the perfect weather. Though knowing Kansas City, the perfection of the Spring and Autumn months NEVER last. If you're a Kansas Citian like I am, you know what I'm talking about. Or if you're even just a midwesterner in general, you probably have a pretty good idea. Midwestern weather changes in a heartbeat, it's not like the consistancy of the western or eastern type of weather. The north and south can be just as bad, but not AS bad. Make sense? I've only ever lived in the Kansas City area for my entire life, that's 18½ years, and I have a pretty good idea of what Kansas and Missouri weather is like... super cruel. Because I'm pretty sure Mother Nature hates us the most, and plays favorites with the likes of those who live in San Diego and whatnot.
The forecast from The Weather Channel and KSHB vary significantly. The Weather Channel calls for a chance of rain everyday of this week, carrying into next week, while KSHB only thinks the rain might come in for a couple of days, and the chances aren't that good. Things have dried out a lot since around the fifth of the month... We honestly could stand to have about half of the rain we had during the Springtime.
So the weather here in Kansas City is usually at one extreme or the other. There never seems to be any kind of middle ground, and if there is, it maybe lasts for about a week, and then it's on to the next extreme. Spring for us is usually never calm. Remember all the tornado reports in Spring around here, and even further down to the south? It's not unusual, but it was definetly extreme. Winters aren't any better, usually accompanied by extreme cold, ice storms, and snow. Though I can't complain about the snow, it's the ice storms that really chap my ass. Last Christmas (actually, very close to it, though I don't remember the exact date), we had an ice storm, and our power went out at 3am, and didn't come back on until the next afternoon. I had on three pairs of sweatpants, two hoodies, a long sleeved shirt, four pairs of socks... and I was STILL freezing.
To the original point that I started out with, despite all of the cons of Winter, with the ice and snow and power outages, I'd still rather have it be Winter right about now. If ONLY for it to be bug free, that would matter more to me than it being warm and sunny. I know, that sounds strange for me to say that, but we all have our preferences, and if it means not having bugs, then bring on Wintertime! And HOLY COW CHRISTMAS!!!11 *Ahem*. Yes. Preeeeeseeeents.
I know tornadoes can occur at all times of the year, and they have been a lot more, lately, but just think... Everytime you say Wintertime sucks extreme... parts... just think of this, and burn it into your skull.
