10/30/2007 - The Politcal and Religious Melting Pot
It is my belief that when Politics and Religion come together into the same melting pot, it makes for a very bitter tasting soup. I say this because throughout the ages man has continuously made the mistake of mixing their politcal world with the dominant religion for that region regardless of who believes what. This causes conflicts considering there are people who end up restricted because someone elses religious beliefs gets enforced on them through the law of their country.
For example. Gay Marriages. There are states that have banned it because they feel that they shouldn't get married. Who says they shouldn't get married? God does. Well, I don't believe in the christian god, therefore I do not see an issue with a man or woman marrying someone of the same sex.
The law has freedom of religion written all over it..that no one should force another to obey the laws of their religion and yet we are forced to do it every day with laws that inspired from the Christian Bible. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Christian faith. For those who actually follow the religion rule for rule without hypocrisy Kudos to you. However, I don't feel that I, or anyone else should be forced to obey those laws. I feel that since the laws are there to protect the people, then they should be made by the people..and I mean all of them.
It's wrong for a woman to have an abortion. Well who says it's wrong...The Bible calls it murder. Excuse me, once upon a time the bible also said "Thou Shalt Not Suffer A Witch To Live" And we all saw how that mess turned out! Again, I'm not knocking the christian faith what so ever...so please keep the angry christian comments at bay.
My intention is just to explain that I, as in  me personally, do not feel that the laws of American should be inspired by the Bible because not everyone believes in the bible. It seems to me that regardless of how much its said that we have freedom of religion, we don't. My reason for saying this is because throughout history our lives have always revolved around the dominant religion of this region, regardless of who believes what. In my opinion, there is no such thing as freedom of religion. There never will be.
