Who Are You? (I Really Want to Know)

REFERENCE: I Peter 1:13-16 So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 14 So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”

OBSERVATION:  This passage starts out with two great principles for living a good life (not to mention, a Godly one); "think clearly and exercise self-control". How many problems would we avoid if we could simply, consistenly practice these to admonitions? Most of the big problems that I have caused myself were because I did not either think clearly or act with the proper self-control.
But there is more: God calls us to live a holy, obedient life. Here is where we can end up in the weeds. How many people try so hard to "be holy" only to discover that the more they try the unholier they get?
We miss a true understanding of what is meant by "you must be holy because I am holy". More than an admonition to try harder, what God is saying is that we now have the oppourtunity, having left our old way of life, to live up to who we now are.
We are Children of God and, more than that, God Himself lives in me. So with Him in me, it is natural to be holy like the one who lives in me is holy. It is not a matter of trying harder, it is a matter of letting Him out!! Taking the time and trouble to discover who and what is inside and living that kind of life out every moment. It is learning to live like the people we really, already are.

APPLICATION/CONFESSION:
How many times to I give into unholiness simply because I forget who I am and who lives in me? I want to fully, consistently, always live like God is living through me.

PRAYER:
Help me Lord. Live Your life through me. Challenge me when I am choosing to live beneath my potential and reverting to who I was rather than who I now am.
