11/24/2009 - Respecting The King (or President)
I got this question via Facebook email the other day: "Randy, should we get on the bandwagon and follow the latest crusade of Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8? I read about it and am appalled. Some people are promoting we pray that the President should die because he's not acting like the Christian he claims he is." Today, I read this in the scripture: I Peter 2:13-14,17 For the Lord’s sake, respect all human authority—whether the king as head of state, 14 or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right. . . . 17 Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters. Fear God, and respect the king. Interestingly, Peter was talking to them about a king who was way worse than any president we would ever have. One they had no part in electing and who killed innocent people and family members just to stay in power. Peter tells them to respect him!!! If we as Christians are called to respect someone like that, then certainly we should not be praying for the death of our president. |
