YOU NEVER FORGET YOUR FIRST LOVE

REFERENCE: Revelation 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love.

Observation: Following Jesus should be a grand adventure. It should be the story we tell of how we have discovered the really meaning of love--from our relationship with God. Instead, the cares of life, our inattentiveness to our relationship with God and the distraction of all that is shiney and enticing, steals our focus from the one thing that really counts--God Himself. Here, in this verse, He calls us back. He reminds us of the love we had and how we lived it out to begin with. He calls us to return to that love, to return to Him.
How do we start to return? Simply put some time aside to get with Him and be brave enough to ask; "God, have I slipped away from You? How, in what ways, have I made my heart distant?
Be assured, God will talk to you. It may not be an easy conversation but it will be a tremendously valuable one.

Application/Confession: I have stayed fairly close to the Lord all of my life. There was a time, though, when I had a powerful, almost overwhelming sense of His presence and intimacy. I would like to be there again.

PRAYER: Lord, bring me back to that place of amazing nearness with You. I want to experience that "first love" all over again.
