GET THE POINT? "HIS FAITHFUL LOVE ENDURES FOREVER!"

REFERENCE: Psalm 136:1-9 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the God of gods.
         His faithful love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords.
         His faithful love endures forever.

4 Give thanks to him who alone does mighty miracles.
         His faithful love endures forever.
5 Give thanks to him who made the heavens so skillfully.
         His faithful love endures forever.
6 Give thanks to him who placed the earth among the waters.
         His faithful love endures forever.
7 Give thanks to him who made the heavenly lights—
         His faithful love endures forever.
8 the sun to rule the day,
         His faithful love endures forever.
9 and the moon and stars to rule the night.
         His faithful love endures forever.

Observation: Get the point? He is faithful and His love (for us) is constant and never ending. There is nothing that is more important to our mental and emotional health than this simple truth. To be really healthy we need to know that we are loved, just the way we are, and that this love is not going to end.

How do we get this very important truth from our brain into the very core of who we are? David seems to have some great suggestions:

First, give thanks. This is more than generally being a thankful kind of person. This is taking the initiative to think about, keep track of and relate back to God our recognition and appreciation for the things He has done in our lives. It serves as a constant reminder that God is not just loving in the abstract, but He has shown His love to us every single day--if we will look for the fingerprints of His loving involvement in the little and big details of our lives.

Second, we need to remind ourselves that God is "God of gods" and "Lord of lords". When we worship, tell God how great He is, not only does it thrill God's heart, it reinforces something important in ours as well. We need to know that God not only cares about me, He has the power to do "mighty miracles". Then prayer makes sense.  If we know that He cares and that He is powerful enough to intervene, then we ought to ask Him to.

Finally, David reminds us that we can see God's faithful love in creation. This wonderful, beautiful world we live in. God cared enough about us to make it for us. We should enjoy it, revel in it and remember that it is a love note from the creator.

Application/Confession:
I know that I would be a lot less anxious if I could fully grasp the depths of God's love for me. I need to apply myself to the "giving thanks" part, I know that will help.

PRAYER:
Lord, remind me of Your love for me. I need it. I need to feel it, I need to live in it. Teach me to see Your loving fingerprints every day.
