10/8/2010 - Colossians 4:5-6 We Ought To Be Salty
Posted in Unspecified
SCRIPTURE: Colossians 4:5-6 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. OBSERVATION: There is so much great wisdom here. We need to think about every interaction we have with non-christians and consider how we can maximize that moment for God's purposes. That doesn't mean that we will always, or even usually, share the gospel, but we can look for chances to merely share ourselves--a word of encouragement, a recognition--so that we are building bridges that Jesus can walk over. How often our conversation is not seasoned with salt. Consider the latest conversations about Muslim religion. Some of our greatest Christian leaders sounded anything but gracefull. The point is to draw them to Christianity, not push them away. To be seasoned with salt means to make our message, by the way we live and how we share it, attractive to others. When we are hateful, dismissive, disrespectful or even just oblivious, we are showing no grace and presenting no attractiveness to truth of the Gospel. It is supposed to be Good News and it ought to look that way.
APPLICATION: I have said it before, I need to have more contact with the non-Christian world. I am way too cloistered. I need to pray daily, as Paul did, that God will give me oppourtunities to share the Good News.
PRAYER: Help me Lord. I want to share your life. I want to reach out and develop strategic relationships with non-believers. Please help me.
