11/13/2007 - The Pleasures of Sin--For a Season Hebrews 10:25

The Pleasures of Sin--For a Season

REFERENCE: Hebrews 10:25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.

Observation: This really is the choice that many people have to make. It is not just turning from sin, but realizing that there may very well be mistreatment that goes along with following Jesus. It may not be the kind of persecution Moses or the early believers faced, it may even be at the hands of other believers, but when we join ourselves with the people of God and choose to take the risk to love and care for others, there is a price to pay.

Also, sin is pleasurable--for a time. Sometimes we, as Christian leaders, try to pretend that sin is all bad all the time and no one enjoys it. It would not be so much of a problem if it were not pleasurable--for a time!!

Application/Confession:  I choose, with my eyes wide open, to reject the very real pleasure of sin and accept the very real mistreatment of being part of the people of God. I realize that in the medium term God promises me blessings in my life an in the long term, blessings, treasures in heaven.

PRAYER: God help me to not give into the allure of sin--it's pleasures are just for a season and to, with patience and fortitude, take my place fully with your people--no matter the cost!!

I just wanted to say that I really liked that because of its honesty, it is rare to see such raw honesty about things, and I think the best way to apporach any problem is to speak honesty about it, instead of trying to disguise it as something else.
