What Do You Love?
REFERENCE: I John 2:15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.
Observation: It is not just that God wants us not to imitate the world--to do what it does--He also calls us not to love it--not to have our hearts wrapped up in it. We can act right but still have our hearts set on "physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions". The question God asks us is not just what are you doing, but what do you love?
Application/Confession: I need to watch my heart. It is so easy for me to get attached to pleasure, wanting stuff and entering into pride. I want to love God so much that I can't possibly love those other things at all.
PRAYER: God, give me a single heart. I want you, and you alone, to have all of my heart. I don't want it to be divided and want to love you with all my heart, soul, mind and strength.
