Jesus Love You, This I Show

REFERENCE: I John 4:10 This is real love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. 12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.

Observation: It has been said (many, many times) that we can not love others unless we love ourselves. God tells us that we love because He has loved us. It is His love we need to experience and understand. It is that love, alone, that makes us able to love others. The way people outside of the faith see God's love is through our love. In fact, the full purpose of God's love is that it would flow through us to the rest of the world. The world needs to see how much God loves them and we need to help make that possible.
Too often Christianity is known only for the controversial and political stances it's adherents take. When we stand for absolute Truth, we will come under fire. Jesus said we would be hated. On the other hand, this all the more reason to love more--more deeply, more widely, more really. People need to see that we take the stands we do--on abortion, on sexual issues, on Jesus being the only way, because we are convinced by scripture that this is simply the truth not because we are haters.
The world needs to see us as BOTH salt and light. Salt that stands against the corruption of the world we care about and light that illuminates the truth of the amazing love that would cause Jesus to come and be one of us and die for our sins. We need to exude that love while always being "salty" as well. Hard job--but somebody's got to do it--you and I.

Application/Confession: It is not enough for me to revel in and enjoy God's love, I need to be looking for ways to be a conduit of that love to others.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to remember that I some of those around me will never know your love unless they see it in me. May I be an accurate reflector of that love to a world so in need of it.
