Who's In Charge Of Your Worship?

REFERENCE: Gen. 4:6 “Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? 7 You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

Observation:
Cain, like all of us, was upset because God did not accept his self-directed worship. He could not, we can not, just offer to God whatever we want, however we want and expect Him to accept that. It is when we get angry with God, when He restricts what we want to do, that sin is not far away. It is our life time pre-occupation to subdue it and become its master.

Application/Confession: I need to always remember not to ask what I want to do for God but what He wants me to do for Him. I am always trying to find something I think is great to give to Him of my own efforts and design. He asks for worship that is of His design and comes from cooperation with Him. Every selfish motivation--even those aimed at my idea of worshipping God--brings me into sin's grasp. I have to work to subdue, control and destroy it.

PRAYER: Show me how you want me to worship you. What I need to do more, what I need to do less, what I need to do differently. Please warn me when my selfishness, anger and self-rightousness is sending me in the direction of sin.

Posted by DarthTsynn Thank you for your teaching. You make wisdom
very clear and accesible to us. I love the Cain bit,
I can identify so well. I could rattle on, but I do
that professionally (LOL). Just thanks. Permanent Link
