Who Ya Gonna Believe, God or Your Own Eyes?
REFERENCE: Prov. 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Observation: This is not what we might expect. We think that the way to find the path to take is through our own understanding. It is not that God is calling us to be stupid--notice it does not say do not have any understanding. In fact, Proverbs is all about how to have it. The issue is, will we trust ourselves or trust God.
The problem is one of perspective. I have a small one, He has a much, much larger one. My understanding is not necessary wrong, it is just, of necessity, severely limited. I need to hear from Him. It is like talking to the pilot that is flying 500 ft. above us. He made be able to see cliffs ahead that we may not. If we are smart, we will trust him to tell us where to go.
God is the one with "oversight". I need to trust His direction.
Application/Confession: It is so easy to trust my own understanding. I think I know. I don't!! I need to learn, more and more, to rely on Him and His direction.
PRAYER: Lord, I want to trust your direction in my life. My own understanding keeps reasserting itself. Forgive me and teach me to follow your paths and not my own.
