The Cure for Inadequacy

SCRIPTURE: Exo. 3:11-12 But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” 12 God answered, “I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain.”

OBSERVATION: "Who am I?" That is a question we find ourselves often asking when God calls us to do something for Him. God does not answer Abraham by telling him that he is something great but by pointing out who is going with him--God Himself.

There is no place for feeling inadequate when the all-powerful God of all the universe told us to do it and is going with us to see it done. We are trained to look at ourselves and evaluate our own value and abilities. This verse teaches us something very valuable; the real issue is not who I am, but who has promised to be with me--no matter what I face.

OBSERVATION/CONFESSION: I so often feel inadequate in dealing with my family, my pastoring responsibilities--even managing my own personal life. My normal response is to try to tell myself that "I'm OK--I can do this!!" In other words, I'm able, I'm adequate. What God wants me to do is to get the entire focus off of me--able or not--and focus on who is living right by my side--to depend on Him. If I do that the questions of adequacy are utterly unnecessary and, in a sense, ridiculous.

PRAYER:
Lord, who am I? I am nobody!! But because You are living life with me, I can do anything You call me to. Help me remember that--remind me when I need it.
