So Ya Wanna Be a Big Shot Do Ya?

SCRIPTURE: Matt. 20:26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.

OBSERVATION: What is our aim--to get ahead or to serve? Jesus here gives us a very important insight. It is as true in the world as it is in the Kingdom of God; the path to greatness is the path of servanthood. Jesus was the prime example. God Himself, came down and served lowly human beings and even gave His life for our salvation--that is true servanthood. Now, we are called to lay down our lives in serving others. To see a need and fill it, to weep with those who weep, to allow our hearts to be broken in love for those God loves, to give our lives in service.

If we do that then God will lift us up--He will make of us what He wants us to be.

APPLICATION/CONFESSION: I find it so easy to serve myself. I am an expert on my own needs and wants. Especially in my family, I need to always be looking to see how I can serve--even in the practical things--cleaning, helping, seeing the need and filling it before I am asked. This is the true path to greatness.

PRAYER: Lord, make me a servant. I want to be like You, Jesus and serve those around me. I would love to be great in Your kingdom--remind me that serving is the path to greatness.
