2/16/2010 - Folly--Proverbs "Other Woman" Proverbs 9:13
FOLLY--PROVERBS "OTHER WOMAN"
OBSERVATION: Here is the "other woman". Earlier in Proverbs we read about the personification of wisdom; Sophia, who offers understanding and a great life. Her opposite and counterpart is Folly. She is loud, tells you what is on her mind even when you don't want to know, and doesn't even know what she doesn't know. This is a warning to us. If we are acting out of foolishness, we will find ourselves spouting off when we need to keep our own counsel and, more importantly, we will be living in ignorance and not even know it or care to know. APPLICATION/CONFESSION: This verse reminds me of the times that I "fly off the handle when I am full of baloney". To avoid folly it is wise to really check to see if I have all the facts and really understand the situation before I speak up brashly. PRAYER: Lord, save me from folly. Put a watch on my mouth. Warn me when I am about to use it before I've really figured things out. |
