3/14/2010 - Self-confident or God-confident? Psalms 57:7
Posted in Unspecified

Self-confident or God-confident?

Reference: Psalms 57:7 My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident.

Observation
: We need a sense of confidence, of security, to function well in life. We are schooled to build up our self-confidence, to believe that “You can do it!” We are taught this from our earliest memories. The downside of this kind of training is that self-confidence may lead to self-trust and self-worship. When we learn to place our confidence in ourselves alone, then at the point when we need security and help, we have only ourselves to look to. No wonder there is so much both anxiety and pride.
If we are confident, rather, in the Lord, the result is that when hard times come, we can rely on Him. We can look to him to give us peace, and we can remain humble. Altogether a much more healthy place to be.

Application/Confession:
I know, so often, when I find myself fearful and anxious, that I am relying on myself rather than on God. I learned at a young age the value of self-confidence. Now I need to relearn the value of God confidence.

PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me for my tendency to rely on myself. I want my confidence to be in You and Your commitment to accomplishing your purpose in my life.
