3/19/2010 - Full of Sound and Fury, Signifying Very Little Psalms 62:1, 5-6
Posted in Unspecified

Full of Sound and Fury, signifying very little

Reference: Psalms 62:1,5-6 I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. . . . 5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.

Observation:
How do we respond when we are in need of victory or hope? Shakespeare refers to life as “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Too often, because we are not willing to wait, and even less willing to be quiet before God, we find ourselves generating a lot of sound and fury that adds up to very little and sometimes makes us act the role of the idiot. It may rile up the people around us, it may even force them to take some kind of action--even just to get us to “shut up” but, at the end of the day, it seldom brings us closer to our victory or our hope.

If we want to live in a place where we are not shaken in the hard times. If we really want to win the battles that really matter (as opposed to the ones that only seem important for a moment). If we really want to have a deep well of hope in our lives, then we must be in the place were we are simply quiet and wait for Him.

This is not a resignation from life, a fatalistic giving up. It is a recognition that true victory is not in our ability to achieve--it is only by placing our confident faith in Him who sees the beginning from the end. There will be something to do, but He will tell us when, where and how to act. Our job is to respond faithfully. His job it to make it all work out for our good.

Application/Confession: I am an activist. God is calling me, kicking and screaming, to His throne. To let Him be in charge and to trust in prayer more than action to see His will (the only will that matters) accomplished.

PRAYER:
Oh Lord, draw me to my knees. Teach me such trust that I can sit quietly and confidently at Your feet. Let me only respond to Your commands and not those of my anxious mind and heart. I trust You to give me hope, peace and victory.
