3/20/2010 - What He Came To Do Luke 4:18
What He Came To Do Reference: Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come." Observation: As Jesus starts His ministry, God gives Him a chance, by providing the opportunity of the public reading of these verses, to tell the world what His mission, the purpose of His ministry, will be. This passage from Isaiah 61 not only encapsulates the calling of Jesus, but ours as well. We are to do what He did. The Spirit that was on Him is in us and motivating us to follow His example. What did He do, what are we supposed to do?
We can see from this list that the message of salvation is not just eternal life, but life for every part of man. It is the cure for all that ails the human race, and we are called to proclaim it.
