It's The Heart That Counts
Reference: Luke 6:43-45 "A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. 44 A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thornbushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. 45 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart."
Observation: We feel pushed to try to control our actions and our mouths. This is not from a bad motivation; we want to be right and live right before God and others. Yet, here, Jesus shows us what the real issue is. It's not our mouths or actions, it is our hearts. We need to let God examine our hearts and reveal to us where He wants to change them. When we see faults in the way we live or talk, it should send us back to look inward and see what needs to change inside. The outside will follow.
Application/Confession: I try so hard to be disciplined in my life. I try to "tighten the screws" on my self and keep myself under control. Yet, God has shown me that the real issue is a rebellious heart. I want to do what I want to do and I don't want to be told "no". I am learning that the only way I will really change is to turn that rebellious heart over to God and let Him change it.
PRAYER: I need a heart change Lord. Please take my rebellious heart and put a pliable, responsive one to You.
