Trust In Money Takes You Down
Reference: Proverbs 11:28 Trust in your money and down you go! But the godly flourish like leaves in spring.
Observation: I have some friends who are pretty well to do by this world’s standards. They just found out, due to some changes at their work, that their income is going to be greatly lowered. These are truly Godly people and what I was so greatly impressed with was how calm, peaceful and trusting their response was. Even though they are facing having to sell their home and downsize. Even though they may not be able to do everything they could before, they accept it with the knowledge that God has everything in control and that He will take care of them. In the midst of this difficult time they can really be joyful.
That is what can happen when we trust in God rather than money. It leads to a much more peaceful and joyous life.
Application/Confession: I know that my focus can be on money rather than Godliness, not because I have so much money I need to watch over, but because I worry about not having enough. God wants my focus to be on Him; He will provide. I just need to be concerned about living a Godly life.
PRAYER: Lord, teach me to live to be Godly--to be like You. Warn me when I am trusting in money, even when that is expressed by worry over not having enough. You are my source. May I never forget it.
