3/27/2010 - Never, Ever Forget Deuteronomy 8:11

Never, ever forget

Reference: Deuteronomy 8:11 "But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. . . . 17 He did all this so you would never say to yourself, 'I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ 18 Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath."

Observation: What a picture of modern day America. We act as though God did not exist, that it is not His blessing that has made our country as great as it is and that we achieved the wealth we have on our own. President Washington warned us at the very founding of our nation that as things got better, the people would become more self-reliant and dismissive of God.

It is so easy, when we have all that we need, to forget God and start to do our own thing. We can look at the Israelites and wonder how they could forget, but we do the same thing as a nation and as individuals. The truly terrible danger is that as we have rejected God, He will reject us and then what?

Application/Confession: I went through 7 years of real trial and difficulty. I know how much I cried out to God for help and deliverance during that time. As I am now in a time of greater blessing it is my challenge to remain as completely dependant on Him as I was before.

PRAYER: I need You!! Even as You have blessed my and my family and church so abundantly, I can not forget to stay dependant on You. I know my success and future is in Your hands not mine. Never let me forget it.
