3/27/2010 - Beware The "Ripple Effect" Psalms 69:5-6
beware the "ripple effect" Reference: Psalms 69:5-6 O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you. 6 Don't let those who trust in you be ashamed because of me, O Sovereign Lord of Heavens Armies. Don't let me cause them to be humiliated, O God of Observation: We may think that our sin effects no one but ourselves and God, but it is simply not true. When we look at what happened when Ted Haggard fell we realize that our sin does impact many others. We don't have the circle of influence that he had, but our sin hurts our friends and family and can have ramifications for generations. Many, many people are not today serving God because of the example of their, supposedly, Christian moms or dads. Literally thousands have walked away from the church, never to return because of the ungodliness of their friends. When tempted to sin we must remember, we do not live for just ourselves and our decisions have powerful ripple effects in others lives.
PRAYER: Lord, remind me. The temptations I face are not just between You and me, I have others spiritual lives in my hands and I need to walk with great care. Help me!! |

Hi
I appreciate the information regarding the "Ripple" effect. On my quest to understand and follow God, i had never been enlightened by the knowledge of the Ripple effect. But, I did arrive at that conclusion through observation. When your life changes dramatically to suit God's purpose, there is a sad reality of worrying about others who have not found their way. But I know the least we can do is set the example for God's sake. Never conduct ourselves in a way that would make God look bad. Many of my friends and family have noticed my seemingly radical change in lifestyle. They do not understand why I must do what I am compelled to do in order to put my old lifestyle behind me. After a short while of setting the proper example, I noticed an "effect" on my loved ones that wasn't there before. I had been pondering "How will I ever reach my family?" They seem to be thinking more about their own life as a result of my changes. Possibly this may open up the way for them? It never occured to me this would be a Ripple effect. My wife actually knew of this and pointed it out while we were in discussion. It's truly amazing to discovery something new about God's work without ever being told beforehand. This opens up a lot of hope for others. We must never give up when trying to reach others. If we can help save one person, they in turn can help save more. God works through those who work for Him. I am truly a believer.
